Can anyone of you clever folks on here help me please. I'm a member on another (non-photographic) form, and someone on there posted a link to an ad for something she was thinking of buying and asking opinions. Of course, you have to click the thing to look at said item, which I did, but now i'm plagued with ads all over my laptop and iPad for these dreadful items (tasteless, blingy jewellery!) popping up all over the place like a bad rash!! I've tried clearing my history on both devices but they're still there and driving me nuts. Any ideas how to get rid please. I'll be eternally in your debt .... thanks in advance.

Try clearing cookies. How you do that depends on the browser you are using.

unfortunately that could also clear all your password info ,take care

Isnt password info kept in the icloud keychain on the ipad?

Do you mean they are appearing in the 'ad space' inside some web pages, which works based on recent searches or on the content of the page being viewed, or do you mean you are getting extra windows appearing with adverts in them?

In the former case, clearing of cookies might work, in the latter case it sounds more like malware.

Nor am I (although since iOS isn't something I work with I don't keep up to date), but the symptoms described aren't precise enough to eliminate the possibility.

Why not just select "block pop ups" in settings? Seems the obvious thing to do.

I don't think the OP is referring to actual pop ups.

Thanks for the thoughts everyone. No, I mean the bothersome thing appears on the page I'm looking at as part of the page, not as a separate ad window overlaying what I'm looking at. Not very savvy at the terminology ... Sorry!

Anyway ... Have now fathomed out how to delete cookies on the iPad. This does seem to have solved to problem but now I'm having to log back into everything ... But, to be honest, it's a small price to pay to get rid of the annoying ad in question.

Thanks to one and all for your ideas. At least I'll know how to deal with it in future, so lesson learned.

the benefit of jailbreaking and using a system wide ad blocker is that it blocks ads from everywhere, not just within the browser. A lot of free games are ad supported and can be a bit excessive.

dont think ive ever been that bothered by ads to warrant jailbreaking a device.

there isnt a firefox app in the app store. other browsers are available, personally i stick with ios safari unless theres a specific requirement (i.e. for 100% flash only sites - photon browser)
