I'm really worried about my 9mth old nephew.

He got diagnosed with croup and xmas but its never gone away... sister took him to A&E last night cos his temp was 39 degrees. But doc said the croup is his body's way of trying to clear infection and babies get an infection every 6wks
So she took him to nursery today but they called to say she needs to pick him up cos his temp is 41 degrees.

Docs have so far refused to prescribe anything because he's so young, but because he's so ill and not getting better... don't they have to act?

Sometimes it's hard to put your trust in strangers, but they've probably seen his a thousand times before and know in their hearts that it'll clear up on it's own.

I'm not a fan of the give me pills to cure it all culture, nature has seen fit for us to evolve and last many years before antib's came along and started weakening our bodies natural defense system.

Hope he makes a good recovery :)

And remember.....no one will ever think any worse of you or your family for expressing concerns to a doctor, better to be safe than sorry after all.

Poor little thing :( I remember my brother having croup when he was a baby. He ended up being hospitalised. I think they used nebulisers to treat him.
If your nephew has a temp, Calpol should help to bring it down, and moist air will help with the croup. Hope he gets better soon.

Calpol/disprol or some form of Paracetamol can be used four times a day, but you can also use Iburofen/nurofen/calprofen alongside Paracetamol, this can be used three times a day recommended between paracetamol.
As for the croup, it is a virus characterised by a stridor when breathing and a barking sound cough, moisture in the air can help with this, hot shower in the bathroom. Also cool air can help as well. Nebulisers can help, or some steriods can help as well. It is strange for it to go on for more than a week to ten days without getting better. The problem with viruses is that the temperature tends to be very high, therefore if you use the paracetamol and ibuprofen between one another this should help.
If he is struggling to catch his breath or not feeding well take him to the hospital. Be warned it is often worse at night.

How is your nephew today?
