Poor service from 7 day shop

I wish I had seen this thread before I used 7day shop!

I don't understand this. Most of the comments here express no problems and if something is needed quickly then you can always upgrade the postage option. If people want to avoid the risk of shopping online then there are local retailers happy to take your money and charge for the priviledge, plus all the time, restricted choice and hassle of 'real world' shopping. 7dayshop are no worse than any other 'low price' online retailer.

I wish I had seen this thread before I used 7day shop! I bought a grip and two spare batteries for my 40D..only to receive my grip (they get kudos for the quickness of that..only 2 days wait :))..but where the frick are my batteries! I shall have to wait and see if they come here on Monday.. :bat:

They do send orders out in more than one package, I believe it has something to do with if the order value is over a certain amount then import duty or vat has to be paid. I have never had any problems with them, as said if I need something quick I upgrade the carriage if not I leave as is and wait.

I've been a fan of 7dayshop in the past but after a recent experience I've changed my views. About a month ago I bought 16 of their own branded 2800mAh AA batteries. I have a high quality intelligent charger, which can refresh batteries independently by repeatedly charging and fully discharging them until the batteries are operating at their maximum capacity and cannot be charged higher. None of the batteries get anywhere near 2800mAh. The best of them make it to about 2200mAh but many are stuck at under 2000mAh. I have some 4 year old Energizers, rated at 2100mAh which will still do better than their rated charge even today.

I posted a review on the 7dayshop website about two weeks ago (or was it more?) and the review has never appeared on the site. I made a post about this on the POTN website, to warn others - http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showpost.php?p=4963651&postcount=12 - and I'm not the only one to have disappointment with 7dayshop.

I wonder just how good the BP511 replacements are that I bought from them. I have no way to check their performance against their rated capacity. They seem to work OK but I have no idea whether they are giving me the number of shots they should.

Most of the stuff I have had from them took about 5 days, the last things I got from them was posted in 6 packages lol.

tdodd I can't see how a charger like that would work on NiMH cells, they don't have the same memory problem that NiCad do.

As far as 7day are concerned, the OP had a genuine grievance with them and it seems that when they do mess up it's hard to them to respond and fix it.

It's not the "same" memory problem, but they can benefit from the occasional full discharge/recharge cycle. Plenty of info here - http://www.batteryuniversity.com/. See this page in particular - http://www.batteryuniversity.com/partone-11.htm

Anyway, that's not the point here. It is generally well understood that NEW NiMH batteries take a few cycles before they reach full capacity - 3 cycles at least. After the first charge/discharge these new 2800mAh were only giving between about 1000-1500 mAh. Repeating several "refresh" cycles brought them up to the best performance that they could muster - around the 2000mAh mark +/- 2000mAh. I paid for 2800mAh performance and what they sent me was batteries that fall short of that by, on average, about 28%.

That is not acceptable, but from what I've read about 7dayshop it would be more trouble than it's worth to bother making a fuss. They might refund the product cost, but I'd have to swallow postage costs, probably in both directions. In any event, why was my honest and accurate review not published on their website? No wonder all their products have high * ratings if they edit out the less favourable reviews. Would you trust them after an experience like that?

Note, I didn't set out to measure the batteries and make sure I wasn't getting cheated. It's simply a natural function of the charger to provide that information when on a Test or Refresh cycle. If I didn't have a sophisticated charger I would probably never have known how poor the batteries are. I could have got high quality Hybrio batteries for less money from Asda, with higher performance and a long shelf life to boot. I feel cheated by 7dayshop and I have learned an important lesson about dealing with that company. If they were in the UK I would have contacted Trading Standards to make sure other people do not share my experience.

EDIT : These reviews are not terribly up to date, but look here for other customers' experiences with 7dayshop - http://www.romulus2.com/feedback/company.php?439

I'm sorry you've had this problem, but it doesn't match my experience.

I ordered 2 EL3e Batteries (for my D80 & D200) and some rechargable AA's from 7 dayshop on Wednesday night and the items fell through my letterbox this morning (Monday). When I last ordered and they wrongly delivered something (the wrong charger adaptor plate) I rang them and they shipped me out the correct item the same day.

However, I would never use 7dayshop, Play.com or any other channel island based retailer for anything I need urgently.

A while back I had a problem with an order from Amazon which didn't arrive due to Royal mail loosing the item and I had to wait for a couple of weeks for them for them to send out a replacement; it's one of the risks of buying online .

With 7dayshop I find is if the item you are ordering is in stock then there shouldn't be any problems but if an item is out of stock, on order or on back order then thats when I have had issues and long waits. So if its anything other than instock maybe find it else where.

Do they always TELL you they are out of stock though... or not till you get the first part of your order... or later in an email once you have already paid?

It tells you on every item. Next to the picture of the product. If its in stock it seems to always say 'Plenty'. I think one reason they have such low prices is because they must buy in bulk. So they must wait to order 1000 or something instead on just one. So I guess you have to wait for them to get enough demand for an item to order the big bulk in.

I have just sent 5th e-mail as an order placed on the 5th Feb still has not arrived.. Was asked by them (7 day shop) to contact my mail sorting office.... Auto reply from RM.."all packages returned to source after 7 days" I have used them before for similar items and had no prob, delivered within days, but this time  just to add some extra info, 2 items ordered from Hong Kong outlets have arrived while I still wait for 7 day to appear.:bonk::bonk:

I can't help think that 7dayshop are getting the blame for Royal Mail problems. I wonder if they offered an alternative (more expensive but tracked delivery) whether we would still see these complaints? After all if they did it would be the buyer's choice which method of delivery was chosen.

Hi All,

I have always found 7dayshop to be very good with their delivery.

Last two orders included 2 x 4gb Sandisk UltraII. On the first order these took about two weeks to come and on the latest order they have not arrived. I guess they probably either sell so many they are always running out or they get them in when they get enough orders.

However at £17.99 they are good value and worth waiting for!

Regards

Chris

I'm with Duncan on this one, I have previously ordered from them and had things never turn up and little or no response to requests for information. Speed is of the essence when I buy something and I want it within 7 days [absolute maximum] not 14+ days.

There are a raft of companies out there offering similar products with similar prices so it's down to the service you receive to help you decide which company to use. I've had goods arrive from HK quicker than some UK companies can get them to me :|

I personally won't use them again.

It does surprise me what poor service some buyers will put up with! As the previous post says, why wait for 2 weeks [or in my case forever] when you buy elsewhere at the same price and get a good service.
If we did not but from unreliable sources they have to shape up or go broke!

Cheers,

Dunc

I've used them on and off for years without any problems. As long as you think about their name and accept your won't receive the goods for 6-10 days then you'll be OK. If I want something quicker than that I usually venture out and into a real shop !!! They do still exist.

I suspect Duncan's real problem is with the Royal Fail and he's being somewhat unfair on 7-day.

We act as a panelist surveying the royal fail performance. You would not believe the drop in service in recent times. Our first class success rate (100% = delivered on day 1, the way it should be) was in the mid-forties in both November and December.

I wouldn't agree that I am being unfair! It is 34 day shops decision to use Royal fail not mine. If this is an unreliable service [or a cheap cop out] then use something else. Its strange that I have orderd all sorts from all sorts of places and this is the first time I have been let down. But when you read the previous posts that shouldn't be surprising....

A brief update. I did eventually receive the above item after extra e-mails,:bonk: however, just to restore faith in them,:) an item ordered 19/05/08, dispatched 21/05/08, delivered 23/05/08, and that was RMSD.

So maybe a few words to eat from me.

Still waiting for mine!! I guess its one of those things, I used to be a buyer and remain very intolerant of poor service. Consumer sovereignty, take your money elsewhere!

I thought you'd cancelled your order and got a refund.

I ordered some stuff from them and it arrived within a week even though we had a bank holiday.

Your service was cr4p, so you now shop elsewhere, mine was ok so I'll continue to use them.

Each to their own and all that :)
