No
send me 28-70 f2.8 for repair. They dismantle the lens and replace some parts. Got it fix and send it bk to me. Unpack of the lens, the rear cap is not on the lens but the lens have front cap on and is wrapped with bubble wrap. No damage or scratch on the rear element so i'm ok but still pi** off. I put the lens on my camera to test the focus, everything works fine except on the A/A-M switch thing, they assemble it upside down. the switch works but just up side down. Again it does no bother me because i don't use it often.

This is poor on nikon's side.

Send it back!
Yep agree with gramps. Send it back at their cost to get it fixed. It may not bother you now but may do in the future, also if you decide to sell it, you may have issues.

You guys are right. When thinking about it i paid for the god damn repair and is their job to put it right. I will also complain about the rear cap thing as well.

Especially as you believe the original repair was questionable!

You are right guys. I will pack it up tonight and contact them on Monday. Tte two parts they swapped out this time is the focus plate and another part, it had been replace on the original repair. This is very questionable whether they actually replace it or not. Can't really argue about that one. Is my word against their word.

I will send this bk to get them put the switch back on how it should be and i will keep use the lens and monitor its performance. I got 6months warranty on this repair.

Yep send it back. My experience with Nikon's service team has been nothing short of appalling.

Get it sent back, its disgusting how they can't even put the lens back together properly, always has been a total shambles from experiences I've heard in the past and a repair I had done many years ago that took 5 weeks.

Yeah, will contact them in a bit to arrange a send back. No reason they will say no, specially I got image to proof. I really have to keep my eye on this lens this time, after what happen to the focus plate and the shield plate thing. Wife is not too happy I have to paid for the £160 for the repair because I haven't use it at all.

Just contacted Nikon and they were shock with the condition of the assemble and the packing. They ask me to email the image to them and they will review to see if they require the lens to go back or not. I also ask them to double check on the rear element of the lens if the lens do need to go back. Dodgy without the rear cap during deliver.

"If" !!!
Surely it needs to go back if the switch has been fitted the wrong way around!

They haven't come back to me about returning it back for the fix. I would be shock if they turn be down. See my upload file. It is clearly wrong.

That's just poor, no excuse.

The lady on the phone was completely in shock after I told her whats the problem. The lens suppose to be QC before it is shipped. Clearly either someone is lazy on the QC hoping I didn't spot the problem or they didn't do it .....

As you have done, complain to them and return it. I would hope they'd offer some sort of good will gesture against the initial cost of the repair. I would be asking for something if they don't offer it - due to the inconvenience and lack of trust on the repair they've done - maybe asking for 12 months warranty on the repair, if they only offer you 6 ???

Hope you get it sorted

That is a good point. I probably will be without the lens for another 2 weeks now. Got a shoot this week and highly unlikely I will use the lens. It will be 3 shoots now without this lens. I will mention about that when they come back to me.

That's freaking shocking. My lens original box was secure in the box they put in but the lens itself inside the box is not and the rear cap is off!

I guess they all like that ........ I got a feeling is not even Nikon that fixes these thing. they just send it to their partner to do it. On there policy thing, they mention the equipment could be send to an authorise place to for repair.

Is not that difficult to put things right and pack them properly ......... wouldn't that will reduce lens going back to them to fix again? I rang them this morning, and provide photo in the morning. Haven't heard from them yet. It sure take their time to figure out whether the AF switch is wrong way round or not.

Appalling, I would have no confidence in the repair after spotting that.

What shocking is on the first repair last year, bunch of stuff was replace like focus motor, rubber, lens mount, shield plate, focus plate etc. All cool when I got it back, everything works. Haven't use it for over 8 months and the lens broke when I decide to use it. On this repair they replace the shield plate and focus plate.

I make me wondering, did they charge me on those 2 parts on the first repair but they didn't actually replace it. Now it force them to replace it.

:jawdrop::jawdrop::jawdrop::jawdrop::jawdrop::jawdrop::jawdrop:, I'd be having serious words with them!

Do you do the Twitter thing? Apparently it can be an awesome tool for getting stuff sorted out.

Also, if thwy are even less use than useless, if you scour the D600 owners thread, a few people have the email address for the top uk guy. A few members have had success in getting a replacement camera after contacting him.

Just a thought incase you get no joy.

Good luck.

I don't do twitter thing but I know the power of social media these days. I try to settle with them to come up with something before going on social media to bite them. The shield and focus plate thing is really my word against their word so I admit defeat on that. Really no excuse on this one. I start have trust issue with sending gear back to them. I will still log a complain whether the issue is solve or not. It might not mean much but it may help everyone else who send the gear back in the future.

After trolling through the D600 thread. I believe the top tier guy is John Walshe. I'm gonna send him a email to express my unhappiness with the service. Total repair on the lens within a year is around £880 and is a joke man.

john.walshe@nikon.co.uk

Finally heard back from Nikon. They wanted to take the lens back to inspect under service warranty. They ask me whether DPD is preferable or send it back using the free post. I will gather all the repair notes tonight and send a email back about DPD collection and show my unhappiness and lack of confidence with them.

I like the 28-70mm f2.8 because it have aperture ring for video and the optic is superb. Don't need replacement, if they offer 24-70 f2.8 I'm ok but I would prefer some good will gesture from them on either extend the service warranty to a year or reduce the repair fees.

I have reply back to the service department about my unhappiness and the collection date, but I also send an email to John Walshe to express my unhappiness, concern, doubt and frustration about the services.

Are there other independent services, maybe authorised by Nikon, who can carry our repairs and servicing as an alternative to sending it to Nikon UK?

I’ve heard of Fixation in London, and H Lehmann, and wondered if these gave a more reliable service? (obviously if outside the normal warranty)

I wouldn't mention one of those with @minnnt in the thread........

More updates on this. They arrange DPD to collect the lens from me on Thursday, it gives me sometime to repack the lens etc for pickup. On their email it says I need to include a brief cover letter explain the problem and include the repair history etc. It says the lens will go to the service manage to deal with it.

I take it is their standard practice. I did ask for some good will gesture to compensate but they haven't mention anything about that .......

Point em to this thread! ;) Oh & pack the lens for return, just as you received it. :D

No. Don't lower yourself to their standard.

Twas a joke, but having said that, if it was returned in the same box, packaging etc, it may prove a point. Heck he might even get a new lens out of it. ;)

My wife throw the box that they send to me away, but I've packed the lens in the original lens box when I first send to them. Like most have said, it came back packed worsen then it was. The lens have so much movement when they packed, I tend to stuff the bubble wrap inside the box to stop the lens having any movements at all.

It would be wishful thinking that they will give me the 24-70 f2.8 AFS to replace my 28-70 f2.8 AFS ...... I did constantly replying to them about my unhappiness, concern, doubt and lack of confidence with them. I also send an email to the Managing Director of Nikon - John Walshe.

The brief letter they ask me to include with the return, I also mention about all the stuff I'm not happy about. When you think about it total repair I paid for the 2 repair is around £860 and they still haven't got it right .......
