I dug a pond last summer and I've been letting it fill up over the winter. I bought a pump today to get the flow running through it as it was starting to smell.

We will be sticking some hardy plants next weekend, like water irises that we saved from the old house that have been living in buckets over the winter (they've survived if not thrived).

We've had ponds before and generally we put some tench and shubunkins, its done well and we haven't had major problems with mosquito's and we've been lucky enough to have Dragonflys and over watery creatures.

This time we want to do something different, the pond at its deepest point is 6ft deep, with a ledge running around which is 2ft deep, which for the most part will be covered in plants, with a shallower area built up with stones.

We are going for a more natural angle and we hoping for something like Minnows, Sticklebacks and Tench.

Just wondering how we could get hold of them and if it was a good idea, or is there another way.

Picture of the pond, before it was cleaned and sealed.

Cheers in advanced!

Don't know how to source those fish, but bear in mind that if you catch wild fish and transfer them there is a risk that some of them may have a disease that could affect others.

talk to the Environment agency. They should be able to advise you what are your best options for the area you're in.

Looks like a neat project.

Thanks,
Rick
