Just a thought , try not to destroy me due to my innate stupidity please .
Can a technically bad photo still be a pleasant or treasured image ......... Thoughts please .

Treasured of course. The most treasured photos I own are snaps of my kids taken with my camera phone. Bad light, out of focus, etc. But I wouldn't trade them for anything in this world as they capture moments and evoke memories other photos don't. I treasure them more than any photo I've taken with pro kit

Pleasant to whom, treasured by whom? To those with no personal connection to the photo, the reaction will be variable. So it's about relationship to content.

On the other hand, it's often the case that when you make an image, however ineptly, you can have a sort of vested interest in it as its producer, which may not be shared by another viewer.

It's perfectly possible to take a technically poor shot and win an international photography prize if it flicks the judges switches.
Though who's to know if 'rules' have been discarded in the cause of personal expression or merely through incompetence?

Yes.

And technically excellent images frequently provide little pleasure and have no value to treasure.

Thank you all for your comments , I know that family pictures ect are always treasured as my profile pic is of my son and Is probably technically poor but I adore it , I suppose I was asking if poor pics get recognition ever which Chris answered for me , you'll have to excuse me as I sometimes talk rubbish .......

When it comes to your kids there's no such thing as a bad photo.

I took far too few photos of my son when he was born, but when he went to sleep and never woke up, the images that I did take in those ten short days became my most treasured possession :(

Funny you say this, my wife and I were going through lots family photos from when she was a child and the composition from pretty much all of the pictures was terrible. I think that's whats makes them memorable and you can feel the fun and life that spills out from them!

My aunt chairs the Visual Arts committee of the RPS. She says it's amazing what you can get away with if you have FRPS after your name, because people tend to assume you did it deliberately.

It doesn't necessarily matter either way. If the concept is good and well executed the technical competency may be irrelevant.

What rules?

Never did "liking" a post seem so utterly inappropriate. I'm so sorry to hear this.

But the sentiment of pictures being visual representations of treasured people, memories, events is the point here I think. I have lots of snaps shots of those things which I'd be heart broken to lose, but which would never win any kind of critical approval. So yes ... a poor image technically, can be of untold worth.
