Been pondering to myself for a while about this one.

I am meant to wear glasses (but don't) if I manually focus on a subject so that the shot is clear and sharp to myself, would that same picture then be slightly blurred to someone who has perfect eyesight??

Shouldn't be, assuming you've got the diopter adjustment on the viewfinder adjusted to your eyes. There should be a little switch (to the right on Nikons I think) on the viewfinder that allows you to adjust the "focus" of the viewfinder, much the same as your glasses do to your eyes.

Like you, I'm supposed to wear glasses, but I can adjust the viewfinder on my camera so I don't need to :)

I think the D40x has this adjuster, give it a go :)

Depends how bad your eyesight is but you can make slight adjustment to the dioptre on the viewfinder that should sort out any probs.

hello,
i had the same feelings when i started a couple of months ago. glasses on, glasses off......could not make my mind up wether it was me or the camera making soft shots. i even bought new glasses. turns out i was just crap at togging, now i am just a bit better. use the diopter to adjust to suit your eyes and you will be fine

yes

Ahhh so that's what that little switch does. I did play with it and it seemed to just make the viewfinder image bigger or smaller, will have another play now that I know what it does.

There may be/is a Diopter adustment dial along side the viewfinder, this will allow you to dispense with your glasses and still be in focus for everyone else. See manual. Must learn to type faster.

You are looking at an image projected onto a ground glass screen inside the camera. If that image is sharp the picture will be sharp too. You may need to adjust the dioptre (eyesight compensation) on the eyepiece lens to see the projected image clearly. Someone else might need the dioptre set differently but you can both take a sharp picture :)
