Hi,

Just curious on what size monitor you use for editing? I use a 22" at the moment and am finding it too small for lightroom 3.0.

Matt

Surely it depends on the resolution rather than monitor size (though they are usually linked)

What im curious is that if people feel the same as me that 22" is too small , especially in lightroom. I find im always moving my head close to the screen as the screen is too small.

Also , was wondering if people use such things like 17" laptops/macbooks and find them ok?

I use dual 20" monitors with CS4.

Probably could be larger but currently happy with them.

John

I saw a bloke with 2 x Dell 30" monitor in landscape and 2 x Dell 24" monitors in portrait on the same computer in a magazine !

You must have read my mind Darren, though I don't have that set up, I do have 2x 22" and sometimes turn one 90 degrees to get better placement if I need more window height...

1 27" and 1 22", in photoshop i have the image(s) on the 27 and all the tools layers menus etc on the 22", which so far works the best for me.

I have a 15" touchscreen mounted vertically next to my 24" monitor on the mac pro.

I use 3 Dell IPS 24" screens on my main rig. Extended desktop. All calibrated.

I use my macbook pro 15" and find it fine, of course I would love something bigger...

Heck, mine's only 13.3" :coat:

I am determined to get an iMac, but so far SWMBO ain't having none of it :nono:

Seeing as my monitor has been nicked by the parents I'm working with a 14" HP laptop. Crying out for something bigger and more powerful, Lightroom overwhelms the processors (it's 4 years old) and the glossy screen catches a surprising amount of reflections considering it's so small!

Looking at getting a Mac Pro but it's a lot of moola.

imac i7 27"

Fantastic

23" at the moment and hopefully by the end of the year a 30".

23" and use the Macbook as a 2nd screen for tools etc.

i'm out of the poll - 15.4" lol . but I don't care . I'm not a technical photographer nor a pixel peeper etc.

17" 1920x1200 laptop for Lightroom 3. Works great. I'm more interested in pixel count than physical size.

I use a 24" monitor running 1920x1200 for most of my editing, connected to a 15" MacBook Pro (as a second screen) running 1440x900.

I'll soon be upgrading to a new 15" MacBook Pro with a 1680x1050 matte screen, which will be nice for editing when on the move.

Surely its the resolution, a 640 x 480 will be the same on any sized screen. I would think its nice to have a big screen but you need high resolution to get more on the screen that actual screen inches.

Resolution is by far the most important thing in my opinion but you still need screen size too as sometimes things can be just too small to read etc. I have a 17" MBP with 1920x1200 display and a 24" 1920x1200 display on the MacPro. I would rather be using the Mac Pro display.

I'm still using a 5 year old Philips 17" square format one.

I don't see the need to upgrade as I find it really accurate, not too bright, and portrait photos fit as well as landscapes do.

Why, oh why, don't manufacturers make 1:1 monitors any more!? 16:9 ones annoy me massively for editing!

I suppose it's due to the fact that computers are much more media oriented nowadays, with people watching a lot more movies and widescreen content. Although I like it because it allows me to have my toolbars on the side in Photoshop when editing.

Also, technically, traditional monitors aren't square, they are 4:3 or 5:4. I remember a friend had a 20" 4:3 LCD, a Dell 2001FP running at 1600x1200 which is the biggest 4:3 screen I have seen.

I use a 17" Viewsonic for editing, imho anything above 27" is overkill, I have a 42" plasma on the wall, but wouldn't even think about using that for editing, it's just too big

Dell Studio XPS 16, 16" RGBLED 1920x1080 display. Widely regarded to be the best laptop screen on the market. The previous owner had had it professionally calibrated, too! It's amazing turning the brightness up and down, watching the backlight change colour temperature, and the colours in Windows immediately changing themselves to account for it.

It's a bloody fantastic bit of kit and the models with the 16" RGBLED 1080p screen can be had starting at about £700. Also try the Dell Outlet online shop for B-grade bargains. (SSD anyone?)

I've got an Eizo FlexScan 985 21.3" monitor at work which isn't widescreen.

I have nothing but my 15" MacBook. There's no option for me :(

Still using a 17" CRT (calibrated) - would love a bigger screen for PS work but am very nervous about switching to a lcd.

24" widescreen here but could really do with bigger
