I cant do a poll, so maybe a mod could make a quick poll asking if people like/dislike flash websites.
 
if they are done well and most importantly load fast then like but for the most part dislike as they tend to be slow.

flash is just that: - effects, style etc
in my view the internet is all about content - content is king - get to the meat...

but this is my view

As a web developer myself I hate Flash. It's slow, and un-needed. Yes it looks god but not everyone can access it. People are still out there with slower internet connections - they don't want to have to wait 5minutes for a site to load. Also, not everyone uses a PC to browse the net. Mobile is becoming a major player - mobile phones, pda's, games consoles etc etc. What are these users going to do? Not only slow loading times, but small screens and most won't have flash player installed. Not catering for these audiences is bad design and it's the job of the web designer to attract as many people as possible! Using flash you will be limited to the number of people that actually access the site. Whilst it may look good to 70% of the public it's not the right thing to use.

However, if an equally web designed and HTML alternative is provided then I'm a little happier to see flash because at least then it gives users the option. However the content needs to be just as good in both.

Depends what the site is. If it's about content, then no. If it's about entertainment, then Flash is useful.

I voted thumbs down but I agree with this. I want my website to be easily found by search engines and Flash is no good for that. I've got nothing against flash though, just isn't for my site.
 
I've recently decided after playing for several months with mine that they are terrible. Time to get to work on a non flash one!
 
I'm one of those who voted for Flash but I would as one of my sites is Flash :D, I like it and it was the look I wanted. As someone said it's about content and for me it shows the work off well.

Add to that my web building skills are zero and I don't have the time, patience or confidence to do it myself which I went for a template design.

some are far too slow-yes even with a fast hookup-but others are ok.

I love the look of them though.
