Polish President in plane crash

Apparently clipped the treetops coming in to land, pilot error or loss of power?
 
apparently there was thick fog over the airport.
when coming to landing pilot tried to raise machine for another attempt.

something went wrong....
human error or machine ? that will be investigated...

Huge loss for Poland :(

It's even sadder when you know the reason for the flight, they were flying to commemorate the killing of thousands Poles by the Russian secret service, the first time the Russians had ever invited them, a real tragedy
 
Flags with black stripes are going up everywhere. All over the news.
 
I just can't believe all the rubbish being written about how this is some sort of sinister Russian plot... Beria's ghost did for them all?

???:thinking: Nobody in Poland has said anything like that, you shouldnt rely on some youtube crap, it was well known fact in Poland that this plane will crash one day, About 10 years ago they wanted to buy new planes for goverment but insted decided to constantly repair it. Some pilots even refused to fly this plane. Iam listening on radio since this morning and absolutely nobody even try to create conspiracy theory. In fact comentators are mentioning very good response from the Russian side.
This was accident waiting to happen but the place where it occured its like winnig the lottery in "bad luck"
Officials are also saying about pilot`s mistake, propably he was told to try to land in Smolensk against the odds (very bad foggy weather) 3 times they tried on the 4th they crashed.

I am also from Poland and I am going to be honest, that this is a huge shock and a massive loss. The death of 88 people, dying on the way to such a beautiful ceremony.

Truly upsetting and touching...

It is disgusting.

Can they not just accept that the Tupolev wasn't exactly a brilliant aircraft and the weather was ******.

Russians today do not wish their Slavic brothers any harm.

And iam telling what has been said on all Polish media tv/radio all day long, which by far is more accurate of what we think about our situation then some bbc news. Its been mentioned like 100 times that Russian actions after the crash were very appreciated, so in my opinion this crash might be a good think for our relations afterall.

On another forum someone is saying they were told to divert to another airport due to fog and had 4 tries at landing, it must have been terrifying if true

Nobody actually know, until they get the black box. Many people are saying that it was his second attempt, and the pilot did not want to do it, but he was pressured by the president and others who really wanted to be at the ceremony.

Nobody knows yet, these are just speculations.

I don't think they were, no. Smolensk is a very small, military airport and I do not even think that they have an ATC tower there. And then, the info they say on TV is very often wrong and not right.

I guess, we have to wait for final reports.
 
Oh guys calm down Dangermouse1964 Just tell them what you think about their chavvy behaviour that should do the trick. :shrug:, and yes you are right in UK thats not the news of biggest importance, its much more important in central Europe well at least for Polish-Russian Issues.

Thank you very much for this intervence Marcel. It means a lot, that you deleted this post. I thought that this was very disrespectful. Not all Polish people are like your work mates and I am sorry, but many work very hard and do respect rememberance day, just like you do.

I really don't understand what happened there and why they put all those Heads in one plane... One of the people on that plane was my family friend - Commander of Polish Air Force. I was shocked when saw his photo and name on the list...
