Police crime scene!?

Hi,
Someone was stabbed near where I live and is cordened off with police tape and has CSI people there, what I would like to know can I take photo's?? :thinking: or will I get arrested? :shake:

You can but you'll likely get moved on
 
Speaking from a press point of view, as long as you don't cross over the cordoned off area you should be fine. I have done this loads of times when working as a press tog. It's also handy if you have a press card but you should not get arrested.

so long as you sdon't interfere with the scene then you are free to shoot. obviously you'll have to stand beyond the tape

i went to a high street bank robbery and spoke to police on the tape duty and said i was here to take pics.. he called his seargent over who just looked at me and said.. well i cant stop you taking pictures anyway....i said i know but was just trying to do things the right way...hmmm

while taking pics i had police smiling at the camera or hiding there face jokingly.. nobody that bothered... was early into the case becuse police tracker dogs arrived aftre i did
 
Thanks was ok in the end, I would like to know should I contact the local paper?! As it's a big thing round here, someone got stabbed. I was the only Person taking photo's. What would you do?

Find the website for the local paper, look for the contacts page, see who seems most relevant (depends on size of paper) to contact. Explain you have photos (up to you if you send the photos up front) explain how much you want paying, see what happens.

Ring 'em and the sooner the better - you've nothing to lose but don't sit on the shots - once it's yesterdays news interest wanes and the price drops.

what he said - and by the way when you are describing the photos the british police don't have "CSI" thats an amercanism and wont help you ber taken seriously - in the Uk they have SOC (scene of crime) officers or technicians

I know that we don't have csi but couldn't be bothered to write forensic people lol thanks for the info will keep you informed :D
 
Just tell them what you are doing and as long as you don't cross the cordon line you should be fine. No law against taking photos on public land.
 
Your going to be to late for the Saturday evening papers, you could try the Sundays, but your best bet I think is going to be Mondays publications. If you have a paper that comes out on Monday morning contact them first then the evening papers.

Up until recently they were known as SOCOs in the UK but most forces have actually renamed them CSI's now as their union stated it's a more accurate role description.
 
Just an update really, they said they like my photos and are going to publish my photo's in this weeks local news paper :D
