Hi

What kind of filter should I be looking for that will prevent reflections on water?
I would like to take some shots of my koi ;)

Thanks

Paul

A polarizing filter will help to cut down on reflections although the clarity of the water and lighting conditions will have a significant impact on the quality of the photo you can get.

a CPL will do, but you'll need to slower shutter a bit

Circular Polarising Filter. You can adjust the amount of filtration by turning the front ring, and you will lose some light transmission when you use it. Good CPLs are expensive. You probably don't have to buy the very best, unless you want to, but I strongly advise you to get a decent one. The cheapies can degrade the images badly.

One thing to bear in mind: the 18-55 IS has a front-ring autofocus, I believe - so you will need to lock the focus before you adjust the polariser (otherwise you will get it lined up right and then the autofocus will turn and you'll need to start again.

Tiffen and Hoya both do reasonably-priced filters without compromising too much on quality.
