Pokemon Go

There are some absolute Darwin award candidates around playing this!

Can't suss out how to put link to M56 chaos yesterday here on my phone, perhaps someone can help me?
That was nothing to do with Pokemon (other than a made up story in some dodgy online site),

I'm not your 'mate', nor have given you permission to address me in a familiar form. And you, dare to talk to me about manners? Quite remarkable. A simple thank you for the explanation would have sufficed.

I'm not keen on the term "mate" either, but a person doesn't need permission to address another in a familiar form.
Poor manners? Possibly, but not quite the shocking faux pas that your response implies, sir.

And there was me thinking you are a woman of the world. No one does not NEED permission, those good days are gone unfortunately, as the French say; tutoyer is still a sign of good manners. A concept of good standard by which I approach each individual.

Aye, the day my window cleaner stopped addressing me as Missy Rogers Ma'am, was a dark day for me!
Did you know they did away with the feudal system too? Disgraceful! ;) :D

Well you can make fun all you like, I would still not address others in the familiar form unless so invited. It really isn't a hard concept, some say Mr de Jong, just call me JP. Just basic courtesy and good manners. But you already went passed that stage, you can call me anything you like :)

Meanwhile I caught three more Pokémon today :)

I know you'll treat them nicely Mr de Jong, they're lucky little Pokies!! :D ;)

A spokesman for Greater Manchester Police said: “This game is ridiculous. Back in my day, if you wanted to walk around looking for big pink dragons and blue tortoises, you’d just take some acid like a normal person”.

Not sure if that was satire, truthful or completely made up but it made me laugh :D

Just noticed in Facebook that my mil is out Pokémon hunting with her grandchildren in Perth, WA :)

Nah the phone companies have their contract regardless whether you play this or not. But loads of money to be made of the data. A platform reaching millions of people and knowing where they are, what device they have, leading them to certain locations. I would have thought the money angle is obvious.
And here we go, a code review has already established that big companies like MacDonald's are sponsoring locations. Who would have thought where the money comes from ;)

Anyone else noticed that there's always a rattata in McDonalds car park?

This shouldn't be news if you look back at Ingress and the sponsorship deals with that game and the same geographical dataset.

My daughter offered to navigate yesterday and we ended up going a strange route through loads of little villages. It turns out she was after these pokemons, but thought it better not to tell me.

I know but someone was wondering how it is making money. Merely highlighting how valuable data is.

Awww come on Mr Bod, nothing was bad natured. :(
PS. Didn't think I offer Admin to tutoyer, but as I'm in his house I regard it as good etiquette not to point that out to him :p

Just had a big win. Tried to download to my state of the art iPhone 4 and the iPhone says no. I have a feeling this has saved me a bunch of time and effort!

Right now it's making money through in app purchases - there'll always be someone who'll pay to avoid grinding.

I went to get my aircon regassed and wheels balanced on Saturday morning and they said it'd take around 45mins so I took a short walk to the local park.

Normally I would have just sat on a bench and checked Facebook, here and other forums but I thought I'd give Pokemon a GO (pun intended).

I spent the next 30mins+ walking around the park, also watching LOADs of other people (ages ranging from 10 - 60) doing the same as me.

If nothing else it's getting more people more mobile.

Pulled into Mc'Ds for coffee this morning, and there was 2 boys about 9-10 ( why weren't they in school?) chasing invisible friends all over the car park.
Well I guess that's what they were doing as they had their phones up to their noses ( 10 year olds with iPhones? )

Anyway, they step out into the road way bit, from the parking bit, right by the side of me, just as an Evoke was almost parallel to them.
The driver when as white as his car, and the 2 little boys ( Oops :D ) were oblivious to presence, continuing on their big game hunt!

I tried to setup an account for my daughter who is 10, computer said no, she is under the age limit. I wonder how old you have to be to play it.

PS. Plenty of schools have broken up already, especially private schools.

The thing is, you don't need to be on top of the critter to catch it. There's a sculpture next to a local Tesco car park that's been a portal in Ingress and is now a stop in Pokemon.. the kids are right up on top of it grinning at Mum.. whilst there's three cars (and in two cases car-fulls, with the emphasis on full) several spaces away clearly playing - and playing very generously and cooperatively with others too. The easiest stops to access seem to have a regular chain of lures getting laid (for the uninitiated these are "bait" that attracts the critters).

Our Children and grand children were playing pokemon last week. They totally ignored me and the missus as they were engrossed in catching the things, whatever they are. Children are in their forties, while the grand kids are in their twenties. It is getting harder to communicate with them, as phone apps get ever more advanced. I tried to download the pokemon app, in the hopes of talking with our children / grandchildren through that. Or at least if we have that app on our phone, maybe they will not see us as so fuddy duddy. App would not work, kept crashing so I removed it.

People were worried that the cinema would cause the downfall of the theatre. And now it looks like Pokemon Go is going to cause the downfall of... Minecraft.

Very unlikely in the UK.

Who knows these days. People will do anything these days. Look at Brexit.

It's unlikely because,"Where's the liability?"

Look across at the "Stupid things you've done for photography thread" - it's no different. Walk off a cliff/pier or get struck by lightning whilst looking through the viewfinder, there is no liability for the camera manufacturer. Camera drone hits child, is the drone manufacturer liable? - nope, it's the twunt driving it.

People will do stupid things regardless of the latest fad/craze or something else the old fuddy duddys don't understand. But it will give a laugh to those observing and let them mutter, "'told you so" under their breath...

I would be careful in these mad times that a parent might think you are watching or photographing their kids

Recently wanted to take some pictures of old motorbikes on display at a world kids day event at the park opposite my house.
Thought better of it knowing how some people react these days, yes I know legally it's not a problem, but some people are crazy and I'm also slightly volatile when approached aggressively so best to not bother

Hadn't even given that a thought TBH, although I normally attract a lot more attention when I have my proper camera with me. As we all know, people who are obviously up to no good luck a couple of grands worth of DSLR around with them rather than covertly using their phone

I reckon these sue for everything lawyers will contact people when it happens and those stupid enough to do it will be stupid enough to believe they can
get compensation

What happened to the days when 2 little boys would have been just as happy with 2 little toys, each having a wooden horse? (y)
