Pokemon Go

Absolutely not!!
This is punishment, not reward. :p

Reading this I'm feeling old as I have zero interest in anything like this... In my defence I fixed gear for years and then worked in tech for more years and since leaving I've pretty much turned my back on it all. I'll ask my GF if she's heard of this :D

We visited the children and grand children today. For some inexplicable reason in the middle of a conversation, they all dashed into the garden with their phones. Makes sense now.

A lot of women are going to be very p***ed off, you know, the ones that get dressed up to the nines to go shopping so that men will ogle them ...
Don't get any of them in my local Tescos. Should I get along to Lidl or Aldi ? :p

I have zero interest in Pokémon, it doesn't make me feel old, just a tad more sane maybe (for a change). :)

I'm enjoying it, we use it on the dog walk as well.

I thought I was safe from it ,until about 10.30 last night when the son (31) and his g/f and then the wife started chasing around the park opposite and then our gardens looking for poke things ,then about 11.30 the lad and g/f went for a walk to the local cemetery to find some ,has the world gone totally stark raving mad .

P.s does this app use your data allowance on your phone ???

Yes it does...

There was a woman playing it whilst driving her car this morning - suddenly did a very sharp left, obviously totally oblivious both to the law and to the danger.

I was genuinely intrigued by this. I was too old for Pokemon. Mighty Morphin Power Rangers and Tamagotchis is what we had as kids.

Was going to download but the company involved has collected a lot of data from customers without indication about what/why etc so going to hold off.

That's what worries me - people so involved in playing it that they forget where they are and what they should be doing [ in this case driving her blasted car ]

So far no reports of Road accidents being caused by Pokemon Go players - but that won't last

Unfortunately many road accidents have already been reported. It is a shame there are so many idiots, not the fault of the game though.

That has been fixed in the UK version as I understand. It was actually mainly related to the iOS version when linking to a google account.

Well I did download it last night just to be nosy of course and thought my boy could have a play, except going out of the house I lose Internet so it's not looking likely lol

There Will Be Lawsuits.

I hope Nintendo's legal counsel is on performance-related pay. :)

I always thought that it didn't work if you was going above a certain speed but it does sound like you can play it while driving!
Don't actually have the game tho the missus does tho
I think that it's good that it gets people out walking and exploring :)

Haven't got a clue what any of this is all about, only carry an old mobile phone for use in an emergency so guessing it's not for me.

I do have a question though, where is the money made from this and who profits? Presumably the phone companies from their users, but must be money in it for others otherwise why bother

Nah the phone companies have their contract regardless whether you play this or not. But loads of money to be made of the data. A platform reaching millions of people and knowing where they are, what device they have, leading them to certain locations. I would have thought the money angle is obvious.

Anyone suing for "we thought it would be a good idea to wander into a cave on the off chance of finding a Horsea" is going to be on a hiding to nothing. Even the ambulance chasers that advertise on TV won't take that on.

"I was looking at my one and walked into the middle of the road and got run over / crashed my car / etc, Nintendo should compensate me" is unlikely to do very well either.

Ingress doesn't work at speeds over about 20mph, in that you can play but cannot actually do anything. I've tried on public transport. No idea about pokemon, I only get on a bus or train a few times a year so haven't tried it yet.

If someone can successfully sue a microwave manufacturer for not explicitly stating it should not be used for live animals, anything is possible!

They didn't really. Just people talking a mistake (not using the correct Google Api) and people reacting. They only confirm your name and email address

There are some absolute Darwin award candidates around playing this!

Can't suss out how to put link to M56 chaos yesterday here on my phone, perhaps someone can help me?

Need a bit of work on your manners matey
I'm not your 'mate', nor have given you permission to address me in a familiar form. And you, dare to talk to me about manners? Quite remarkable. A simple thank you for the explanation would have sufficed.
