OK I will start out by saying that I have no idea what it is, and am going to have a google now, but over the past 2 days I have seen loads of references to it on my news sources and Facebook. Is it the next big thing? Do you do whatever it is?

I've no idea but my 20 year old son is going mad as it's not available for ISO (apple) in the UK yet.

Yes it's the next big thing, yes I have it.

Gets me out of the office for a quick stroll at lunch time. The dog loves it - she's now getting 40-45 minute walks instead of 25-30.

My step count has gone from 10-12k a day to 15-17k.

I heard about this on Today this morning. A mobile phone game that gets you to visit places on foot? Ingress, anyone?

Has anyone been able to get it in the UK then? I didn't think it was available yet, or are you all sideloading your apps? If so watch out for malware versions.

Is this the one that's been getting people robbed in the US?

It's basically geocaching with augmented Pokemon characters instead of hidden real objects.

Like anything though, news stories are coming from people acting stupidly when playing it and falling over objects/walls/pavements that are real when they are looking for the augmented characters :0)

Well they're both Niantec off-shoots from Google, and Niantec have recycled most of the Ingress portals into the game - location bugs and all. More of a problem with Pokemon Go as the geofencing seems to be tighter. I suspect Niantec/Nintendo are hoping for more of a cash cow from this, Ingress was really a disguised way of Google gaining extra location/spatial data for Google Maps (historic landmarks, community focal points). I had a suspicion it was probably also intended to do some wifi sniffing for improving non-GPS positioning before Google got slapped down in the EU for such things.

Slow servers and a buggy app, but early days.

I now have to advise a couple of clients why they've once again got folk hanging around the historic clock over the front door, sculpture in the car park, etc. looking suspicious and staring at their phones. Ingress was freaky enough for people that weren't aware of it, but Pokemon Go is going to be a whole new level for them I think.

This will mean more children walking out into the road looking at their phone screens!!!

its in the uk my two sons have it one has a apple phone there raving about it i dont see what all the fuss is i must be getting old lol

Apparently it's added billions to Nintendo's share price already.

I know when Pokemon came out years ago it basically allowed Nintendo to develop and play around with hardware without worry as it was worth that much to them.

They will have a US iTunes account then ;) Or got it via a dodgy location. It is not officially released in this region, be careful as there is lots of malware about related to this.

A few people at work have had it for a week or so. One apprentice was on it at the weekend whilst walking her dog and ended up walking 5km. Another apprentice said he had some kids knock on his door asking if they could go in his back garden to catch some pokemon, he told them no and went out and caught them himself.

It seems Pokémon isn't all that can be found whilst playing it.

It's basically a new way of culling the stupid. People weren't dying enough from using their phones while walking in traffic. Nintendo have fixed that.

In other news, Nintendo's valuation apparently went up 7 billion dollars due to this free app. Wait until they monetise it properly.

Sigh . Been playing ingress for over three years, haven't walked into anyone / been run over / etc yet. It's not difficult to remain aware of your surroundings.

Some people seem to have problems walking and breathing at the same time though!

My sister, 46, has the "preview" version on her iPhone and she's really raving about it. Having seen it for myself, it made me think that there should be a Star Trek version of this game, where we go walking around looking for new life forms and missions.

Mind you, that would then enable the local ne'er do wells to create a trap in a back alley way or woods and mug the unsuspecting nerd.

But for now it would be difficult for me to get into this new craze as I only have a windows-based smartphone.

I've sideloaded it on my Wileyfox Storm, from the official source. Looks good and fun.

the mind totally boggles ,think i'll go into the garden and have a chat to the resident frog in our pond :wave::wave::wave::wave:

I've never come across this pokemon business before, but I downloaded the app yesterday and went out for a couple of hours yesterday evening.
It's a really interesting concept in some ways, and I was amazed at the number of people playing it already, there must have been about 15-20 others last night, and quite a broad spectrum of people.
I think it's a great idea, in that it will encourage people to get outside, and Im pretty sure it will really take off in the UK when officially released.
By heading to a couple of the Poke Stops, I actually found out a few bits of info about my local town that I didn't know too.

Apparently there are hacks available as well - why go out and get some exercise when you can stay in and cheat instead?

Yeah, that's like somebody who smokes 60 a day and lives to be 100. You're basically an outlier ;)

I honestly considered using my whistle when running through a pack of iPhone zombies the other day. They certainly weren't aware of their surroundings.

Put on some weight and get your shoulder down...

joke/ do not try this at home...

The UK version has been released today. I've just started playing it.

I'm not ashamed.

Downloaded the app just to see what the fuss was about (I swear that was the only reason) and found 2 pokemon in my work building

There's a statue outside that's a pokeshop too (whatever one of those is).

Quite a crowd gathered in one spot by the river at lunchtime, several 'stops and a gym in close proximity. Much mutual luring going on.

I wondered if it had released officially as I was able to Update from the Play Store - if anyone else side-loaded be sure to check Play for the update. Runs my Moto G a little hot...

Yup my update came in this afternoon.

There were 6 adults on aisle 7 of Morrison's a while ago all ogling a character.
It was hilarious.

I downloaded it today and found a few Pokestops in the park. Quite a few people doing it but it's not for me so uninstalled already.

I've installed it too, caught 3 Pokemon in my front room lol

Quite a few PokeStops here and a gym, I need to be L5 for that.

A lot of women are going to be very p***ed off, you know, the ones that get dressed up to the nines to go shopping so that men will ogle them ...
Move over ladies... there's a new a bitch in town...

BTW how do you get 30 Pikachu's on a bus?
You poke'em on :coat:
