im looking at getting the misses a good point and shoot, i really like the Canon G16 but its got no panorama (which she loves) , as we are going on honeymoon next month i want to replace her old and naff Panasonic FZ100 , whats peoples view on the sony rx100 iii ? she has always had canons so is 'used' to them , is the sony going to tick all the box's ?

I carry the Canon G7 X everywhere. I went for that above the RX 100 mk3 as I really don't need a viewfinder on a point and shoot and at the time it was about 170 cheaper than the Sony. My mate has the Sony and it's a great little camera. Personally though the g7x felt better in the hand.
RX 100 mk3 has a viewfinder and the screen tilts up and down. G7X screen only tilts up, but it has touchscreen with touch focus or touch to shoot. Downside for what you're looking for though is it doesn't have panorama mode.
I'm sure she if used to Canon's she would be wowed by the g7x if she could live without the panorama mode.

Take a memory card to John Lewis and ask to see both cameras. You can then see the results at home for yourself.

Have a gander at the LX100 too.

very good idea will go have a fiddle... i think lack of panorama will swing it so looks like the sont but will go see the results myslef

Have a look at the Fuji X30. A bit bulkier than the Sony but a great EVF, gorgeous colours, great handling and a bit cheaper too. Does panoramas.

Forgot to say, video on the g7x is superb. From what I see on youtube it seems to be a fav with the video bloggers

I haven't used my DSLR since buying my X30 about 6 months back... it's the only small camera I've been completely satisfied enough to take everywhere and use for anything. Quality, very good ergonomics and wifi just make my life a whole lot easier :)

If the LX100 had a manual zoom, that would have been on the shopping list instead but... it doesn't.

x30 is a great camear cant doubt that but its to big really for a pocket camera for us , had a little pay with the sony and its def a winner (although not cheap.. )

haha well id really like the 'replacment' for the G16 but its not out yet!
