Anyone recommend some decent photo related podcasts please?

I've started listening to a few film orientated podcasts lately usually whilst just working.

Negative Positives, Embrace the Grain, Film Photography Podcast...... Not really because I'm into film more than digital, I certainly shoot more digital by far, but I'm not really into the latest gear/reviews & talking about 20fps & 15 stops of dynamic range etc. I'm more into listening to peoples experiences, road trips, opinions, how people approach photo styles/genres etc

Anyone else listen to anything?

I find the lensrental ones interesting sometimes.

Lots published on their blog:

Though a lot of their stuff is gear related but not all of it

I tend to find the podcasts that I return to are those that are less about gear and technique and more about talking to photographers about their work.

Ed's preempted my recommendation for Ben Smith's, A Small Voice, so I will second it. :)

Ffoton Interviews, which naturally has more of a Welsh focus (a bonus for me but YMMV) is hugely enjoyable.

Grant Scott's weekly A Photographic Life reflects on different aspects of photography, usually with a guest piece or interview. Fair warnings; it is aimed more at discussing the professional than amateur practice, and Grant is a man with great enthusiasm and clear opinions.

I don't have the time for them these days sadly... However some suggestions from me...

Our very own @kris3291 has a podcast - which I really enjoyed. The guests are engaging and I think Kris is a good interviewer. (More info)
Also there's an older thread here that lists some. And a film/analogue one here.

I used to enjoy the classic lenses podcast, but didn't look for the link when I renewed my computer until there were over 20 hours of backlog to catch up on...
I suppose I could download them & listen while driving, that way I might catch up in a couple of months, but generally the earlier episodes seemed to interest me more so I probably wont..

I'll second the ffoton podcast. :)

Thanks All. I'll certainly take a listen to those suggestions later on.

There was another on Amazon with a female presenter with guests chatting about how they started, their first paid gig, how they shoot now or set up lighting etc etc I'll have to try to find her again!

Certainly better than listening to the same songs repeated every hour on the radio......

Process Driven - Jeffery Saddoris - talks to photographers amongst artists and film makers. He has recently started Deep Natter with Sean Tucker. He also jointly did On taking pictures that started in 2012. if you ignore the fact that events they talk about are in the past or that they talk about Lightroom 4 at the start there is some interesting discusion

I'd do a Podcast myself, only thing that stops me is that it'd get destroyed by trolls if I made it public, which defeats the object of the exercise IMO.

That has me intrigued.

Why do you think it would get destroyed by trolls and why do you care?
Because I've known for several years that about 70% of the Interweb hates me because of my disability induced employment status (lack thereof)

Also, the reason I care is because it upsets me that in some cases I am forced offline by Daily Fail reading trolls who think I'm a "workshy slave to the benefit system", even though I've been doing voluntary work for years and have a 3 page CV of experience

I don't get how people listening to you talk online would have any inclination as to who you are & what your employment status is & therefore 'hate' you for it.

I can understand that they might not like your voice, presentation skills, subjects etc but that's something completely different. There's several very popular landscape photographers who's YouTube I just cannot watch but I do love their photography.

Thing is, I have a very broad Yorkshire accent, which after 40 years of watching Emmerdale has entwined with a bit of talking like the Dingles lol. Foreign call centres hate me because I talk fast, and as mentioned, in broad Yorkshire so they don't understand me.

I find that all very strange TBH.
We have over 60,000 members here, from all walks of life. Some are employed, some are unemployed, some are retired, some are too young to work as yet.
Some are able bodied, some have mobility problems.

No one knew your status until you just told them..
No one is judging you. You are a member, just like the other 60 odd 000 people here

No one here or anywhere would know about your employment status or disabilities, but in your 19 posts on this forum, you’ve mentioned both in nearly every one!
Keep it private, no one cares. Post whatever you like and ignore the idiots.

And what's that got to do with people knowing/guessing/sussing out your employment status?

People run very successful YouTube channels & Podcasts with all sorts of accents from all around the world. I've a very Scottish friend. I live in Bristol. Can you imagine a Mancunian overhearing us chat.......? :ROFLMAO:

Until a couple of weeks ago I had a public YouTube channel that was getting hits and likes, but my latest footage got posted on gamefaqs.com without my knowledge or consent by a troll, and I responded in kind, told him to GTFO my channel, and promptly set every video on it to private.

I have 40k ish subscribers on my YouTube. I get all sorts of comments on my appearance, accent, advice and all sorts.. it’s simple, delete, ignore.
People are arseholes, deal with it.

That's half decent, that is.

Pardon my nosiness, do you get any income from it?

Feel free to tell me to MMOB.
Used to until YouTube changed their ways of taxing it. Plus I don’t really post to it much anymore. I was getting £250+ a month, now it’s about £80. Which I guess isn’t bad for not doing anything.

But again, what's that got to do with your disability and employment status? That's just your over reaction to something.

That sort of thing happens to everyone at some point on YouTube, Instagram, Facebook, forums..... Was it Thomas Heaton who got a death threat through comments on his channel...? I know it was one of the 'bigger' YouTube vloggers. Anyway, they are still posting publicly regardless.

Hmmm.... This thread seems to have taken a wrong turn.... I was quietly following to see what else people listen to.
Would still be interested in hearing from others if there were more suggestions on the topic :)

Candela - I think this one has stopped but worth going through the back catalog

Fujicast - you don’t need to be a Fuji user to listen.

photography daily

A small voice - mentioned above

Idle hands society - interviews.. not just photography

The Togcast with Sam Gregory and Paul Sanders is a good listen, it is coming to an end but there is a decent back catalogue there. The Landscape Photography Podcast by Nick Page is worth a listen as it the Photography Pubcast.

I have enough problems in my offline life without being attacked by morons every time I post online content on my YouTube page or elsewhere, that's why my Blog on Wordpress.com is set to private by default and will never be posted in public.

Anyway, podcasts.

I’ve listened to many over the past 10-12 years, Lenswork is the only one I’ve stuck with over that time.

I did listen to the Candid Frame for many years but it’s mainly American photographers he interviews and I’ve kind of drifted away from it. A Small Voice is a British version of that which I prefer these days, the recent interview with Tom Stoddart was excellent.

A Photographic Life is very good, I like Grant Scott even if he can come over as pompous at times. The ‘what does photography mean to you’ slot has thrown up some interesting ideas, and some of these sections have been transcribed into a book from Bluecoat Press which is well worth a look.
