Pod Coffee Machines

Depends what your water is like. I don't descale anything here in Manchester. You only need to descale if you have an issue with scaling.

Our supply isn't terrible but we do use a Brita filter kettle just in case, as every now and then there's a definite chlorine type taste from it. I guss every couple months should do it? I plan to use the machine every morning before work so fairly regular use and I'll probably run it's cleaning mode at least once a week. I suppose I'll know when I see the included tablet start to disintegrate :D

For chlorine you don't need a filter just put the water in the fridge is enough. I don't think I have ever used the cleaning function on my coffee machine after 6 years.

We use filtered water (Toolstation in-line filter) for all cooking and drinking so do "dry runs" when de-scaling when the light comes on (well, not dry runs, just plain water with no descaler tablets in it). Once a year we do do a proper descale with a cheaper descaler than Tassimo/Bosch's one branded tablets. They're all the same thing in different packaging. Our water is soft so the descaling is more insurance than necessary!

We have a water cooler/dispenser on the fridge and we only ever put bottled/filtered water in there, no idea why I chose to use tap water on first go of the machine [laziness tbh], might just get some extra large bottles of cheap filtered water for it :)

I should add that I've been interested in a coffee machine for a while now but I always imagined they were complex beasts [I'm sure some higher end ones are] - but this thing is so basic, bit like myself , couldn't be simpler! Love it - Have already ordered a bunch more pods from their site, there was a €20 off pods voucher with it once you registered the product.

We live in a hard water area and only descale 4/5 times a year. I think a light comes on when it needs descaling.

Enjoy.

Keep an eye out for their sales - they can give very good prices! And watch out for the hidden nasties (saturated fats) in some of the drinks; I love the costa latté but 3 of them supply 1/2 the RDA for an adult and leaves little room for cheese!!!

Brentor's right, a light does come on when it thinks it's time for descaling but it bases it on the number of drinks it's made rather than the amount of scaling it's detected.

The light comes on about every 2 months. It probably doesn't desperately need descaling but I do it anyway. It's not a particularly onerous task.

The latte types are novelty to me, it'll be mostly Americano doubles or Columbian in the morns, I do fancy some of those hot chocs though

CO-WELCOME30 for drinks orders over £45 (possibly € too) today (26/12). And special offer on 5 packs of some of their drinks (but the packs aren't eligible for the extra discount). Sorry, Marc - gingerbread latté seems to be OOS at the moment!

Will have a look cheers. The gingerbread one sounds tasty, pity it's not on there atm. But ... there is a toffee nut latte, and incoming they have Hazelnut praline and Chai Latte

Anyone bought anything like this: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Tassimo-Capsules-Storage-Anti-Vibration-Cleaning/dp/B0789KSTSX/ref=sr_1_38?crid=3OZ4N2K80KEW2&keywords=tassimo&qid=1640548928&sprefix=tassimo,aps,64&sr=8-38

Looks like a neat option to store your pods. Wondering about the build quality of the drawer

Thought about one of those, Keith but already have something very similar to THIS one for pod storage so didn't go for it. 90+% 4* or better sounds like a decent bet to me!!!

I seen ones like that too, I think the drawer is neater for my use [kitchen is a bit upsidedown atm because we had the hall painted just before Christmas] - looking to neaten stuff away but I like either option (y)

While I'm at it, may as well share this here, only Christmas pic I put up on FB this year

IF we didn't already have the carousel thing, I'd have bought a drawer thing like in your link.

I got a dolche gusto for Xmas, what a lot of messing as it's manual
Pity the missus tipped the old senseo

Just been given a date for kerbside pod collection here - 24th Jan.

Visit https://podback.org/ to see if it's available in your location or to get bags to send them back for recycling if there is no kerbside collection in your area.

There is a place in Milton Keynes which has a drop off for lots of different recyclables which aid charities. Unfortunately, Tassimo put a stop to it and it ended on Dec 12th. Sue's looking into the podback scheme. She ordered some bags before xmas but we've yet to receive them.

We got a load of the smaller bags with an order direct to Tassimo. Once the bigger (I think!) home collection ones arrive, I could send you whatever we have left if you want them.

Our local collection point closed at about the same time as yours so now we have no excuse to go to Lyme Regis (the collection place was about 1/2 way there) other than "because we want to"! IIRC the old scheme was to some extent in aid of charity - about 2p per pod/wrapper.

Another Tassimo user here, usually Colombian or the morning coffee pods, daughter likes the chocolate pods. Morrisons have offers on quite often, £6 or £7 for 2 packs. Just seen the post above re recycling so will feel a little less guilty driving my coffee now. Thanks for the recycling link
