Hello Sport Togs,

I'm looking at getting some Pocket Wizards so I can do some more remote camera stuff at the Horse Racing and football (where possible).

I currently have the crappy little Yongnuo triggers and receivers and there just don't cut it, so looking to upgrade to some PWs.

Been looking at the Plus 3s, people had any experience with these? They easy to use, even for a techo-tard like me?

If anyone can recommend a good place to purchase two transceivers and the required cable for the camera (N90M-ACC-ND I believe - D300, D700, D3s) that would be awesome.

What's the issue with the youngnuo's? I presume they're 602's?

I find them very unreliable. You plug them in, turn them on and sometimes they fire, some times they don't.

All seems to depend on what order you plug in and turn on! And I haven't worked it out yet!

Strange, I've used them for years. Mine can trigger faultlessly 100 yards away. Your the first person I've heard moving from 602's to PW's, usually it's the other way around?

I presume you've checked the batteries and you have the correct trigger for your camera (nikon)?

Yeah, batteries all good, correct trigger. They've worked at some events, and not at others.

I'd try changing the frequency before I splashed out :)

Admirable is spot on. I get near 99% reliability from my 602's, principally because they are so basic. They're especially useful when the rest of the pack is using PW's and triggering each other's camera because they're all on the same frequency!

Having said that, I think that we both use Canon and Yongnuo seem to be more biased towards them.

Perfect solution - switch your camera system instead of the triggers! :)

Test the system at home, especially if you have a couple of Tx and Rx's; ie try a combination of Tx1 + Rx1, Tx2 + Rx1, Tx2 + Rx2 etc etc and also test different frequencies as mentioned.

For studio/location lights and shutter triggers they're the most reliable system that I've come across, including PWs.

never heard of this make before do they work with eos 1d mk11/3 etc where can they be purchased and whats the cost?

Lots of sellers on ebay, do a search for RF 602. They're about £30ish depending on how many you buy.

The rx's are all the same but the tx's are camera specific, ie Nikon/Canon

sorry guys for not being specfic i have heard of pw but not of the others
as a conon user could somebody point me in the right direction as to which one i should be looking for. at that price its worth taking a punt

TBH, you may be best off keeping your eye out on here. There come up for sale every other week or so- if the kit doesn't include the shutter lead you can pick one up on EBay for a fiver or so.

Stick to the RF602 for shutter release, rather than the newer RF603. The 602 will fire the shutter both from a camera hotshoe and manual release, the 603 only offers manual.

I read a hell of a lot of magazine articles each month and the vast majority of "pro" photographers, who use triggers, use the 602's.

Andy

That may be so in magazines, but in the real world most people are on PWs or Eliports etc because that's what they are used to.

wish I'd read this sooner Mark!!, my wife has ordered/bought me 4 of the 603,s for Xmas :(,
is there any way to trigger frome the hotshoe? what about if both units had a cable attatched from unit to camera via the 10 point connectors?.

If not it's not so expensive a deal & I'll use em for creative flash jobs . Kind regards Graham.

Not that I'm aware of, my my knowledge is based on reading & chatting with one of the dealers, rather than actual use.
Have a play- you might surprise us! :D
