How you all doing?

Do any of you have the Plustek OpticFilm 8100?

Just wondering if you are happy with it? I am tempted to get one, currently I'm using my X-T3 and macro lens and honestly it's a faf to setup.

That was my issue. Huge PITA.

Yes. Fab little scanner. Can get A3 prints out of 35mm with it which is exactly what I wanted. It's also acceptably quick to me too.

I have its older sibling, the 7500i. I think it's just brilliant. I use it with Vuescan. 35mmm scanning is a solved problem for me. For 120, I still use my trusty Epson V550. Good results, but I'm considering the purchase of the new Plustek 120 Pro, which should be even better.

I also have the Plustek 7500i and it's great. I can't really complain that after nearly 9 years the multi-scan option is so temperamental that I can't reliably use it (registration out on second or subsequent passes). Still does a great job. I don't think the optical hardware on the 8100 is much upgraded, if at all, but that's OK. Definitely a step up in quality from scanning 135 on a V500!

If @MrDrizz buys a new 8100 he'll probably get a copy of SilverFast with it. I scanned a LOT of slides with the old SF6; it's very powerful even if I hated the (then) interface. Then Apple made it not work on their OS upgrade at some point, and I couldn't afford the upgrade. I changed to Vuescan Pro and have been very happy. A couple of times I've tried Silverfast trials but I can no longer make it do what I want!

I keep toying with the idea of this for a bit more desk space, but the reviews on it weren't great. And for that money, it should be flippin' good...

I have the earlier Plustek 120. From my tests on the same 6x7 negative, it extracts more detail than the Epson V700 scanner that I had at the time. But not enough more in my opinion to make any visible difference in an A3 print (which is as large as I care to go from 120 film). I have the scans saved somewhere, but they are too large to post - Onedrive, Googledrive or Dropbox and a download would be needed.

Thanks folks, I have found out that the 8100 and older version are pretty much identical internally. Not sure on the 8100i

Any issues with drivers on Windows 10?

Not here. Only problem I had was running 2 copies of SIlverfast (I have a V550 too). Their software is appalling. Ended up just needing to do another install of the software.

Mine is fine on Win10. Works perfectly with Silverfast and Vuescan. Does a great job with 35mm film.

Kyle McDougal compared s Plumstead 8100 it with his Nikon Coolscan, where it performed very favourably.

I'd like one of the 120 models too, but I can probably do more worthwhile things with the money. My V550 does a decent job with 120 film, so unless I have a windfall, I'll stick with that for now.

I think the 8200i (not 8100i AFAIK) is also pretty much identical to the 7600i, the model after mine. It has an infrared channel, which with suitable software can be very helpful in automatically reducing dust and scratches from C41 and E6 frames. Doesn't really work for black and white or kodachrome, as it tends to muddle up grains of silver with dust spots... not good!

I think the old Silverfast I used was slightly better at using the infra-red channel than Vuescan. In particular, I used it for a lot of Kodachrome slides, despite being contra-indicated, by using the built-in mask facility to select sky areas, where SF reduced dust but didn't seem to do damage.

Well this never crossed my mind.
Bloody import duty and other fees. Scanner is coming from the Netherlands, bought on Photo Specialist.
VAT was added at checkout but no idea if I'll still get hit for import and other fees. [emoji1745]
