Same here! As a contingency I've been giving out my icloud mail address, but would prefer to keep my existing one.Still hear nothing more from Plusnet!

You’d have thought they would have told you beforehand, if that’s the case. But then again …I think there has been something happening yesterday as though I could receive emails, when I sent some (even from one Plusnet address to another) I got a response that lead to learning it was to do with the sender being blacklisted!
A few hours later all was well.
NB the status report on Plusnet said all services were okay. So maybe something to do with transitioning the email platform to Greenby![]()
Agreed, though if as I surmise perhaps an unanticipated side effect???You’d have thought they would have told you beforehand, if that’s the case. But then again …
No, I haven't been notified yet about my email being transferred to GreenbySo ... It's October and I still haven't heard anything from Plusnet regarding cessation of web hosting and mail services. Has anyone been migrated across yet?
Perhaps it's a case of first in, last out. I too have been a customer since it was set up (from Line One??),No, I haven't been notified yet about my email being transferred to Greenby
The Plusnet community forum has some chat about it and it seems that PN are working their way through all the customers and doing the transfers in blocks of accounts. No clarity on whose accounts they are selecting in which order???
The protocol is that they will give some advance notice via email to start with.
I have been a customer since 2003 (IIRC) so length of account does not seem to be an indicator?
no, nothing for me either. letting sleeping dogs lie! For safety I am gradually moving to my iCloud account as and when, but would rather keep my personalised mail address. Now nearly the end of October and I've had no contact about the move. I've been with Plus since Feb 2004 so it could be first in, last out. My sister, who joined a few years later but now only had a free email account, had notification earlier this year and moved to Gmail.
Just by way of information.....Just an update - or not. Still have heard nothing from Plusnet, and my mail is still working. Best not to poke a sleeping horse, eh?
Hmm - I've very little spam coming in (touch wood!). Maybe I will always remain, in a dusty little corner of a forgotten server. I'm gradually moving my email address to my iCloud account. I know you can initiate the move from iCloud mail directly, but for now I can't be a***d.Just by way of information.....
I was advised that even though I had a notification email about the transfer to Greenby, the date is more of advise that my username is in 'that' tranche of customers to be transferred and it could/would still take a while!
However, for the past few weeks I have been getting spam (higher than I had experienced before) which seems to be isolated to only three of my email addresses. I took this matter up on the Community Forum with one of the attending PN customer agents via the PM. Asking whether the problem can and will be sorted out before my transfer to Greenby.
Basically I have been forwarding all those emails on a daily basis to the PN Abuse team. I can only hope manage to do their back office bit to mitigate for such spam ~ a goody amount of which I noted is from the same domains!

Gmail is free, & can be accessed through Thunderbird with a certain amount of jiggery pokery to set it up. It also works seamlessly across all devices through which you access it.It now seems very difficult too find a free email that can be accessed using an email client.
If and when I am moved from Plusnet's mail service I shall completely move over to iCloud. I have already started migrating in preparation. That way I should (?!) protect myself from other forced moves.Bearing in mind that after 2 years Greenby will charge £15 per year I think (as previously mentioned) I will be looking for alternative paid services.
Sadly the free ride we have enjoyed with Plusnet email has ceased but Greenby in broad terms is IMO not (yet?) for service.
So, the big question is........who to choose for their email service? NB I have 8 emails boxes though I could shed some......just need to setup the primary ones to start with and get them used as appropriate by 'senders' to see which ones I can shed?
Therefore, can be please ask who you are using or considering using for their email service and what is the cost?
We are in a similar dilemma......My sister has just had to move her home phone service to digital voice, which prompted me to look at what happens when my current Plusnet contract runs out. It turns out that Plusnet do not (at least in my area) offer a broadband service with a phone service. They seem to be recommending moving to EE (now another BT brand, or vice versa) for broadband and phone; I guess I would have a good look at alternatives when this comes up. The connection to the topic of this thread is that I am now glad that my Plusnet email address is independent of having Plusnet as a broadband supplier!
Last time we had to change our home email addresses was when we moved broadband from Freeserve to Plusnet, it was a right pain, and it would be many, many times worse now as we are registered with so many more services. As it happens, I would be less affected than Mrs R, as I do have and mostly use an alternative email (begins with G... shudder!). For a lot of people, their email address is deeply embedded in their lives, and making changes to an account once that email address no longer works would be very difficult.
So, surprisingly, I find myself thinking "thank you" to Plusnet for making Plusnet email addresses independent of their core services!
Therefore, can be please ask who you are using or considering using for their email service and what is the cost?
When changed is in effect forced on customers after decades of service it is galling. Not a PlusNet customer but FWIW. I was in a similar position last year (ISP I had a domain and email hosting with for 30+ years was closing their Mail service).
As the saying goes if it free to use, you are not a customer but a resource.I’ve never been keen on letting Google or Microsoft get at my personal email data, so I’d rather pay for my own.
As mentioned the one I went for is £20+VAT for the year.I ended up with IONOS. It’s costing me £1.20 per month for up to five email addresses on the domain, which seems fairly reasonable.
Edit: upon checking, I think that goes up to £2,50 per month after the first year
This seems like a good idea, although I do worry about the temporary nature of domains. Ten years sounds great... but for me would be long enough to forget that it needs renewing... presumably if someone swooped on it they would have some level of control over your email. I'm not sure what an "email hosting service" does, but I've read a bit about issues relating to managing self-hosted email services to worry about it!By way of planning ahead I have bought a domain and registered it for 10 years and based on the user experience of a Plusnet community member paid for an email hosting service @£20 per year.
The free ride re: Plusnet email was good while it lasted but now over!
If your renewal is in May I wouldn't expect BT to give you a 12 month landline contract, sadly, as it seems to be due to get switch off before that would end.I am not attracted by EE for broadband (we have EE mobile SIMs) so will explore the costs of getting the landline back with BT.
Just an update - or not. Still have heard nothing from PlusNet, and my mail is still working. Best not to poke a sleeping horse, eh?
Update on this.............snip...... But he also said you could choose not to go with them from the start, and select one of your own choice.
I've had my own domain for years - once you've set it up, the default is for it to renew annually, but you can increase that to buy/renew in longer periods if you want. This seems like a good idea, although I do worry about the temporary nature of domains. Ten years sounds great... but for me would be long enough to forget that it needs renewing... presumably if someone swooped on it they would have some level of control over your email. ....
I have never gone through the process of selecting a hosting company, having let Plusnet host my domain for longer than I care to remember. But others on this forum have, and will no doubt be able to talk you through the process. But you will never lose the ability to use the internet - after all, that is the whole point of Plusnet!can you walk me through this.......who do i choose....?
thanks !!!
