No
I am not sure if this is the right place to put this but as this is where it all went wrong I decided it was!
First off:-
The forum rules state that when you go, just go. I did & as I was going I thought that meant I had to empty my gallery too. There was no thought of "throwing the toys out of the pram " as has been suggested.

Now as to my comment to Pete.
We had had a similar discussion several weeks before & his comment was almost word for word what he said then. Fair enough, but am I not also entitled to an opinion?
That first time we discussed my idea of a "true" image I had for some time after PMs from a member telling me I was wrong & should have upped the Sat/con. No amount of explaining on my part would convince the person that I too had the right to an opinion.
When Pete gave his comment, something inside me just snapped & I thought "I am not going down this road again"

Pete & I are worlds apart photographically & I will say here & now that I do not care for his images no matter how good he is with a computer. Does not mean he is wrong though, no more than I feel my type of shot is wrong.
I bear him no grudge but would offer him some advice if I may.
Before you try to "help" folk Pete, why not send them a wee PM with the offer?
There is no point in you offering me help with PP when we are each after a totally different end result.

I had watched with interest the way he dealt with Russell & was a bit dismayed at the lack of the big stick from the mods. It is their forum though so I respect their position.

I actually left the forum rather than have another squabbling match. Seems I got that wrong too!

Can I now ask you to please stop all this come back Charlie stuff. In a strange sort of way it makes it even harder for me to return now if I wished too. I am grateful but it is just not the way I am bolted together.

I knew nothing of all this till last night when I started getting emails (though the way I am set up I get an email when someone leaves a PM). Seems some of you have been asking Janice to forward emails to me. This must be putting her in an awkward situation though we have not spoken about TP since I left.

As to the folk who sent a PM. I will reply over the next day or two.

Finally can I just say I have met some very nice folks on here & had the pleasure of their company while photographing the wee reds last year. It was a pleasure & I look forward to sharing the experience with some more of you this year.

I will once again apologise to the mods for breaking the rules by being rude to a fellow member & also now for the long goodbye.
It is a good forum & I have enjoyed most of my time on it & have indeed learned much.
My I wish you ALL (whether you are for or agin me) a very Merry Christmas & a Guid New Year.

My only wish is that the petty squabbling stops. There is a whole world out there folks & life is far too short for point scoring.

Kind Regards to you all
Charlie (sawman)

Merry Christmas Charlie. I hope you and your family have a lovely time. I look forward to you slipping back into life around here at some point in the future... An update on those beautiful red's once in a while will make me a happy lady :) Take care xxxx

For everyone else:

Please remember the season of good will before you reply, and that if you answer this with malice it will just make the whole situation drag on, and possibly get worse. It's time all this pettiness stopped. Life is indeed too short, so if you are tempted to reply with anything but kindness ... turn off your screen, have a break, and use that time to use the thing that brings you to this site in the first place, your camera :)

Merry Christmas everyone :D

Many thanks for your explanation Charlie, you will be truly missed, Julie and I wish you and your family a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

Dave

Bye Charlie and merry christmas to you and yours :)

:plusone:

Very good words there Jo

Before this thread gets closed can I just say cheers for sharing your vision on the world you work in. I was looking forward to seeing your take on the forest in the snow.

Hope you have a Very Merry Xmas and the New Year brings all you wish for.

Diane

Have a good Christmas Charlie

Sorry to see you go Charlie, you and your family have a great christmas

Totally understand where you're coming from. Good luck with your photographic future!

Merry Chrimbo bud, didnt get to meet ya. you seem like a nice chap. Hope that a lesson is learned here and its not in vain.

Charlie, I hope you return but would prefer that you make the right decision for you. Merry Xmas and a Happy New Year to you and your family.

I do not know what has happened in the past but have a Merry Christmas and may yir lum reek lang

For others that have artistic differences with other forum members there is always the ignore function. Add that user to your ignore list and you'll see they've posted a message, but the message is hidden unless you take them off ignore (or someone quotes their message)

Don't let the small inner group put you off bud. Let your photography do your talking. Hope you have a great Christmas, we are off for the whole week visiting my Mum, sisters and first three children, can't wait for Sunday when we fire up the motor and head off

PM everyone asking if they want critique before I post in their thread? That would be stupid as TP is all about critique as we have recently re-established. If people don't want my help then they should politiely say so. No need to be rude.

Talk about mountains out of molehills, I've been following this with interest and I'm surprised at Charlie's course of action but he has made his decision. I don't think it is the right one as he has a lot to share from his unique perspective.

It's time to move on, if Charlie wants to come back I'm sure he will.

Exactly, that's why that particular functionality is there, much easier that all this squabbling.

Don't let the small inner group put you off bud.

Inner group? This comes up from time to time and there are no cliques on here, just over active imaginations. (if there is one that I have missed can I join? :D)

Merry Christmas everyone!

I hope you come back, and in the same vein, when you do start posting images, I do hope we are allowed to comment on them from a processing point of view - it is a huge part of photography, and unless you somehow indicate to every single member than you do not want crit, the same thing could surely happen again?

Looking forward to seeing more of your work, telling you to up the contrast, and stick in the oven for an hour :D

Seriously though, come back and chill.

Gary.

:lol: Most forums have them, its hard to escape them. TP definately has one. If you can't see them you are in denial :D:D:D:D - hey and I did not call it a clique, I called it an inner group :)

The above is my view. I am quite open to constructive reasoning why you think I am wrong but don't just scoff at it and claim I have an over active imagination.

Mind you I thank you for that comment as well, is that not the holy grail of all photographers :lol::lol:

Just what small inner group put him off? Apparently it was all my doing. A group of one?

Member names please. The only groups I see? And it changes as people hang around...

"Regulars"
"New members"

Gary.

Very often there is no right or wrong with anything artistic. It is truly in the eye of the beholder. Photography is no different to art in that respect. I do wonder if art forums have people argueing over brush sizes?

At the end of the day it's your decision Charlie, I'd love to see you back with the animals someday. You have opportunities to do things there that most of us don't have and it was always refreshing to be allowed to share with you.

Much peace and have a Happy Christmas.
xx

And as for an inner group, I'll never be a member of one on any forum, because I just do my own thing. :)

inner group? Am I in it?:lol:mention inner group on any forum and it always creates emotion, even amongst its normally placid members :).

I don't think anyone intentionally joins it or wants to join it but it just happens.

As a forum becomes sucessful it becomes a victim of its own success. Members counts go up and members start to look like super members. This then can intimidate new members, obviously they do not need to feel intimidated.

As it happens I am probably wrong in this instance since Sawman has a high post count himself and based on the above would be, by default a member :D:D

So "regulars" and "new members" would be a fair assessement? They only reason the group divide is there I guess, it takes time to work out the personality of new members, and vice versa for them. But eventually, the people who stick around will be default leave "new member status" and will become part of the furniture...I guess.

I think the same would exist in any time of "member club", online or offline and its part of humanity, we need to *learn* to like each other, and get on, and that takes time with new faces.

Spot on Gary, and accomodate others. As you can see to accomodate others I have used quote tags, although my usual style is italics :lol: (:p to Pete :lol:)

It just makes the thing you quote stand out more, and when I quote you I only quote what you said and not what you said + what you quoted :)

Thanks Pete for explaining your thoughts, they make sense

Aweraverybest tae you an yours, Charlie.

I have enjoyed your photos since I joined here and appreciated them straight out of the camera.

All the best Charlie. Have a great Christmas and New Year. Also to every member of TP enjoy the festive season and thanks for all the help in the short time I've been on here.

Andy

Merry christmas and a happy new year. Shame we wont get to see your pictures anymore.

Although I think this whole thing is pathetic and some people need to grow up :) (no names mentioned)

well this is a picky pickle isnt it..

1) this thread is not allowed in the rules
2) its in the wrong forum, so will be moved.

General note.
Look its pretty simple, people have disagreements, lobbing toys out of the pram and flouncing off is entirely the right of the member, as is your right to have an opinion, or for someone else to have one, its also your right to disagree with someone or what they say, but this the internet, and people, phrasing, intent, malice, mockery and all manner of other things can be misconstrued very easily.

Forums have an 'ignore' function, and i heartily recommend people use it if they dont like other people. If I ban every person that has rubber others up the wrong way, there would be very few people left. This is the third or forth post that i have had to post this, and it is also the last, as i am getting rather bloody sick of this. Pete has already had a ban and im damn sure he will have another, but it is the Admin team who decide this, not an angry mob that is out to serve its own ends..which leads me on nicely to Cliques.

There have been comments about cliques before, we did have a problem with a small group once before but there is no problem that we are aware of anymore..
*mod comment*

From a personal point of view i find it totally over the top to leave over a petty argument, someone people really need to take a step back and think about what they are doing, in this case Pete needs to reread his posts before hitting submit, and sawman needs to think about what hes doing, he obviously brings joy to alot of people here and that is great, but pull your piccies and do one? total overreaction IMHO

Pete, we have talked about this before, you REALLY need to take on board some of the things people are saying, you have a lot to offer but you NEED to repackage your offerings

In my defence my original comment wasn't meant to be nasty in anyway and I didn't think I was being rude at all. I was sincerly offering some constructive criticism. It was after it was thrown back in my face that I took 1 glove off, but still left a smiley.

 dunno what to say Pete. Why people cant just use the ignore function to..errrr...ignore you, is beyond me. One click and they dont have to read anything you post again

:bang:

I tried using the ignore button once but my curiosity was getting the better of me and then it was bugging me because I couldn't see what the person was posting and I was switching between ignore and un-ignore so I gave up.

:D

I agree, but one thing I've noticed is that it isn't an obvious feature. Its burried inside the contacts. I can understand why because having "Ignore this member" by everyone's names isn't exactly nice to see. Kinda implies that its a needed option. But maybe if it was easier to do it would solve more problems. "Ahhh wtf you ****!!!!" and then the person can either respond or take a breath and hit ignore because its right there.
