Hoping to start creating content for my website this weekend using wordpress. Anyone able to recommend any themes i might consider using ?

tia.

If you are willing to pay for one, then www.themeforest.net has loads of good ones.
WordPress photography ones are here:

If you would prefer to use a free one, personally I like Touchfolio. http://dimsemenov.com/themes/touchfolio/

However I do not believe its been updated in a while [I've since switched to a paid theme]. It may have some bugs but its worth trying it out as it is a really well made theme.

When you look for a theme, look for one which is responsive. This means that the website resizes to fit the resolution of the web browser/device it is being viewed on. So on a mobile, they get a mobile friendly layout without the need for a separate website.

twentytwelve is my favourite "blog style" theme and "Lightbox Plus Colorbox" is a good lightbox plugin - not really ever used a "gallery style" theme so cannot advise on that type of theme really.

I used the paid Avada theme with a Justified Image Grid Plugin and NextGen gallery in the background. Bought from ThemeForest. I've also tried Armada for a personal website (again from Themeforest) and that's worked well. Neither has been for any ecomerce, both just hobby sites (though there are plugins that can assist if online sales are what you are after).

I really like some of the themes from Elegant themes. I'm pretty please with the one that I've got as per my signature.

I've recently switched to The Sorbet Theme. Does the job, though not uniquely for photographers I suppose.

Thanks for the ideas, i've been recommended LENSA by a couple of people - any views on it ?

It is not a bad looking theme, especially for a free one. However, I find it incredibly heavy, if you don't control your file sizes carefully you are forcing people to move away almost instantly. Browsing it on a mobile device I noticed it immediately uses a lot of memory. I would suggest something that is lighter in page load opposed to forcing that upon people.
