There's quite a lot of this kind of kit around now, with battery generators and stuff. Depends on how mobile you need it to be.

Best to take a look in person I think. Luckily enough, the Focus show at the NEC is on 6-9 March and all the big brands will be there. Well worth a visit. Might get a deal too ;)

Yes, go to Focus if you can, they'll be some new stuff there to interest you

yeah same as before.

was thinking Bowen 400 / 400 travel... can i get anything better for the price?

you're right, I can't:'(
And it should:)

lol. I'm currently in the market for either a Ranger RX, Quadra, or Profoto with Batt set up so will be interested to have a go. Luckliy enough you're all bunched up close at Focus arent you? Whens sale day? ;)

From South Devon is a treck, but it's motorway to the door. Well worth it if you're spending a grand. And there's tons of other stuff to see.

The thing about portable/mobile kit is there's a huge difference between a bunch of speedlites you can hang in a tree and a couple of big battery generators that can power a full scale outdoor studio. Plus there are some things like the Elinchrom Ranger Quadras that can do a bit of both or Innovatronix generator packs that can be used to take regular studio heads outside.

It is very personal, what you want to do, how you like to work, your existing kit, now and in future, etc etc. If you can specify exactly what you want to do, you could draw up quite a short list but it would be a brave man who then went and purchased it all blind IMHO.

Yeah, we've let Profoto and TFC have stands next to us:)
There will be a small discount on all orders placed at the show, using the coupon code focus (it won't work until the show opens:lol:) and then demo goods on the stand will be sold off at a discount from 4 p.m. Wed - no stock as such, it would cost too much for extra storage space and there's no point anyway as delivery is free, so the only discounted goods other than the Focus discount will be on the display goods.

Hope it works, or the van taking the stuff away may not be big enough...

Is it possible to "reserve" the display stuff? Or would somebody need be there first come first served basis at 4pm....in which case, expect some scraps! lol.

I'm taking a friend with me (gf's brother) whos in the market for a full studio set up, new venture, 4 lights, various modifiers etc.

Generous of you to let them next to you guys, lol. I pretty much expect the profoto stand to be empty anyway due to £$£$£

I don't know, I think you'll have to ask the boss, but I can't see why not.

the M5 from exter is just up the road correct..

Current kit is:

5DII
70-200 F2.8 L IS II
24-105 F4 L IS
17-40 F4 L
50 f 1.8
430 EX speedlight
Low Pro 400AW bag
Giotto Tripod 9011 head i think

i want to take lighting to beaches as i live near the beaches... woodland... industrial places and urban.

Portrait is what i want to mainly do maybe TF/P TF/CD. Fashon, general portraits (natural) also inside.

looking for specificaly... location lighting equimpment. quite light i guess but not like a feather as it wont be too much of a walk from a car. derolic buildings would be good for portraits and stuff like that.

£1k Max like i said for lighting... but need reasons as its alot of money :P

If you don't need mobility in the field, and can get away with studio style heads (non weather-proofed?) then that makes life a lot easier. Bowens, Elinchrom, Innovatrinix (on The Flash Centre stand I think, and they have some new things around the corner apparently) all have choices, also perhaps Lencarta too.

You can hire a lot of this stuff, eg from The Flash Centre's try and buy scheme.

Same. Whatever lencarta is releasing is going to have to be BLOODY good for me to buy it over a profoto acuteb, at focus.

We'll see. I *think* I know what it looks like already... ;)
