So i am absolutely terrible at deciding big decisions! I have a bit of dilema!
I have got in to study a BA in photography at LCC but I have defered my entry till 2009 because i was going to go travelling! My dad is having heart surgery so I am not going travelling do I find work experience and a job in photography and stick to my original plan of going to Uni in september 2009 or do I go this september! I was also thinkng of applying to study in Newyork in which case there would be no point starting this year!
PLEASE SOMEONE HELP ME DECIDED! :S

How can anyone else possibly help you decide? We don't know all the factors that affect this decision.

Only danger of deferring is that you may change your mind or lose interest before then.

Would they allow you to go this year? if they are expecting you to be starting next year all spots for this year might be filled. Study in new york, NICE! but will cost a pretty penny. Best of luck to your Dad.

ok, well first of all calm down, uni can be done when u are ready for it and you know thats what you want to do 100%. Also the fact that you can deffer your entry is positive because it means you dont have to worry about uni right away.
I would see if you can get some work experience while you stay at home with your father, and then consider if you want to apply for new york etc a bit closer to the time, same with entering uni in 2009. The fact that you are so torn about this indicates to me that you need to have some time to think about it, maybe talk it over with your dad?
hope this helps. x

Do it as early as you can is my advice.
I was going to do the same as you but decided to do my HND and BA consecutively and ened up having my GSCEs, an A-level in graphics, a ND in graphics, HND photography and a BA by the time I was 20. It was brilliant to be able to get in on jobs as soon as I could and being youg meant I had plenty fo time to chop and change if things didn't go as planned.

However, as someone's already said, it's a decision ONLY you can make. We can give advice but we aware that the more advice you get, the more uncertain you may become. Good luck :)

I know some colleges and universities do like their students to have a gap year. Gives them a more "rounded" view on the world. Not all academic. Now your father is going to have heart surgery, for which I wish him all the best in the world. But you now have to decide what to do.

The first question is can you college find you a place for this year, or are they all taken. Second will your fathers surgery distract you from your studies. ( Although I seem to remember a report that stated that studies can help relieve some stressful situations by distraction).

Find out if you can start in September this year. If you can't then that's one option eliminated.

The decision in the end has to be yours. The only suggestion I can give is to give it some time and thought, don't rush into things. Find out if you can start this year and then review your options.

:) thanks for all your kind words of support about my father! I have replied to my offers and have decided after much thought to take a year off enjoy time with my family and father and hopefully get some photography work and/ or experience! Whilst university is their forever loved ones aren't! :)
