i bought a 16gb sandisk extreme SD card the other week (from 7dayshop - not a fake)

it had a load of photos both jpeg and raw on from my daughters 1st birthday, but ive put the card in my pc today and there seems to be nothing on it :(:(:(

ive ran 'recuva' on it and its found 7 files that were taken today but nothing else :-(

i haven't formatted the card so dont know how this could happen :-(

anyone got any ideas?

nick

Search for and download photorec. If they're on there it'll find it. Not the easiest to use program but is the best at finding & recovering stuff.

Let us know how you got on.

can you see them in the camera? it might be your card reader, if so try uploading with a cable?

nah theyre not there :-(
not sure whats going on
the sandisk rescuepro software wont recognise any of my external drives, not the sd card or my 1Tb hard drive :-|

im trying all of the above suggestions thanks everyone, hopefully get them back

http://www.rapid-data.net/ £97, most others websites require you to get a quote. Not used them, AD on google from search, so £140 probably not far off the mark as long as that's the only costs

One more thing, you said you got the card from 7dayshop. I've had fake stuff from them in the past (fake Duracell branded memory card, of all things) so the card may not be the real deal.

If the memory card was supplied with a rescuepro code that was accepted then I doubt the card was a fake.

Yeah it came with a rescuepro code for 12 months which is valid so definitely not a fake. Me and laura have had.a chat and although not ideal, most of the photos were of grace opening her presents and then our day out at a petting zoo so they are relatively easy to re-create :) we'll have another "birthday" for grace I'm sure he won't object to opening presents again and going to see loads of cute animals lol, I can't afford to get it repaired :(

I found a program called Pandora Recovery on the net and it found all the files I knew I'd taken. I couldn't find them on the card with any other program including most of the ones mentioned above. Would be worth try, it's a free download and you can donate if you like it. It found loads of photos on a card, even though it'd been formatted more than once. I hope it works as well for you Nick, I hate losing shots. I had to do mine after getting the Cryptolocker ransomware, although I couldn't get the files from the drive affected by it I did get them off the cards I'd used before I got caught.

You say it's a genuine Sandisk card with the rescuepro code and thats not able to detect anything / any drives ? Is your anti-virus causing issues for you ???

Have you tried a call to Sandisk / logged a fault with them re the card and see what they say ?

My other concern would be the card itself and is it going to do this again ?

Yeah it's a genuine card. I'm in the lakes now and have put off using it for fear of it happening again. Might contact sandisk and ask them to replace it, think it's the only way I'll feel happy using it from now on lol

I would as you're not using the card "in case something happens again"...

I would also leave the card as it is, contact Sandisk and see if they can suggest anything to try re the software or card recovery.

Have a good time in the lakes :)

Certainly is, especially if you have the weather - The lakes does tend to have it's own micro climate as well

You might even get some low flying jets during the week :D

Hope you get the card sorted

just on the live chat to LC-TECh who are the software owners for RescuePro, they say i can send the card to them for a repair and even if its somehow formatted they should be able to recover the data, but they will charge £140, does that sound about right?

I don't think thats extortionate. I was quoted £99 for a HDD, which of course once they received and despite already having a full explanation of the fault [I knew it would need internal parts before data could be recovered] the quote then rose to £400 which I politely declined, I had all the data on other drives bar about 5GB's so it simply simply wasn't worth it.

However, I was going to suggest Pandora too, I used it about 3 years ago on a card that Sandisk and several other programs had completely failed to detect anything on. Pandora found not just the lost images, but photos from several formats earlier too.

Whatever happens, good luck!!

If you contact Sandisk, they will help you, the only problem you will have is that it has to be sent abroad to get replaced, sent register etc, it's a real pain, they sent me a link to some software, and fortunately it worked. My problem was the card had corrupted, not lost photos.
The other alternative is to send it back to 7dayshop for replacing but they will not recover any data.
