Edit My Images

Hi everyone.

I have some serious issues..... i have recently installed ps 6 & i'm having some problems with my image quality!! i know the files are more than sufficient, i use a nikon d700 & d90 & have done so for the last 6 years so the problem is not there!! when i try to print my images its saying that the quality is low & i really don't understand why??? i never had this issue before using PS 4, WHAT AM I DOING WRONG???????? I figure it must be some default setting that i need to change or something? its driving me mad!!
When i crop, i have unchecked the "delete pixels" box as i don't like the idea of deleting anything from the image and when i click on the image in bridge, its telling me the file size is about 4mb, it just won't let me print good quality??
Thank you so much in advance for any help offered!

What exactly are you doing to the images? after you crop ect go to image size and tell us what it says. Also what size are you trying to print?

surely non of that matters.. its the DPI for printing.. in ps6 go to file size.. tell us what the dpi is?

Just for clarity I assume your on CS6 not the 2001 PS6? :)

Are you printing from bridge or CS6...what is the image size in CS6 and bridge is it the same?

Hi all.
Thanks for your replies. Yes sorry, i'm using CS6 (photoshop).
I'm editing the photos in photoshop, sometimes using actions, sometimes cropping & sometimes just brightening up a little. Even without cropping, for some reason the images are getting reduced in quality/resolution in the transition between opening up in photoshop & saving them.
Today, (the most recent & most frustrating occasion) i was attempting to order a canvas for a client (30"x20") which i appreciate is fairly big but seriously..... with the image quality starting off in camera as spot on, this has never EVER been a problem before i started using CS6!!!!! ;-(

What is going on???
As advised...i am logging on now to check the DSI

Ok just try opening in image file and see what size it is

Then try saving it and reopen from scratch, and see what size it is

I'd guess that you have maybe changed the default save settings?

This should tell you if the problem is before the save it after

Hi. I checked & as suspected, my DPI is set at 300. My image size is showing at the standard 4288mm x 2500 or whatever the exact figures are?! & i'm saving the image at the maximum file size with number 12 quality! i'm cropping using the original ratios!! i've tried everything?!?!?
Its driving me insane!! very very tempted to go back to using CS4!!??

Got me stumped. When you save and re-open is it still at that Rez?

I'd so it could be something to do with the way cs6 is talking to your printer?

Maybe you could reset your preferences and restore cs6 to its default settings?

Good luck!

why not upload the photo here so we can see the settings etc might give a clue. How do your settings correspond to the sample I have listed below ?

For example I just looked at a basic JPG file on my PC where I run the same software. This JPG was saved with a resolution of 180 p/i as I was uploading it to Facebook - but also could print a good quality A4 sized print

Non cropped photo and in the Image Size box it reads from the top

Pixel dimensions 8.67M (this is an info only line)
Width 2105 pixels
height 1440 pixels

document size
width 29.7 centimeters
height 20.32 centimeters
Resolution 180 Pixels/Inch (saved at this level by choice)

Scale styles - box ticked
Constrain Proportions box ticked
Resample Image box ticked

Bicubic Automatic

What? of course it matters. If he's cropping a tiny bit of the image and trying to print an A0 then it's going to look poor quality isn't it. :bang:
