PLEASE HELP, PROBLEMS WITH PHOTOSHOP

i'm experiencing a problem with photoshop, ok here's the problem, i opened up a photo in elements 5, after using the magnetic lasso tool to mask of a part of the photo i then open up the clone tool, but it won't open the brush properly to the size i want,i get the affect of just tiny line's as if the brush is set to 0, no matter how big i make it,although i can still use the clone tool i have no way of gauging the size it's in, so i decide to close the program down but it won't close, but it will minimize, so i try opening in CS2 and CS3 and the same thing happens with the clone tool, it's though there all affected at the same time by the same problem, in the end i could'ent even turn my PC off it just kind of froze, i ended up having to turn it off from the main's yes i know not good but i could'ent think what else to do, this has happened a couple of time's in the last couple of month's, i was really p****d off about it today as i was half way through the photo when it happened and i could'ent save it, the funny thing is the time's it's happened is when i use the clone tool right after using the magnetic lasso tool, i hope this all make's sense to you, and if so has anyone else experienced the same thing, and how did you fix it, i would be very grateful for any help, many thanks in advance :thumbs:
 
Have you got anti virus and anti spyware protection? Sometimes the only sign of an infection is programs freezing. If you don't have protection, search for AVG anti spyware and anti virus protection online. It's free.

yes have both anti spyware and anti virus protection running.
 
Run a scan of both. It's fixed any program errors I've had. Sometimes real time protection doesn't catch everything.
If it's not that, I'm clueless as I don't use PS.

press your caps lock key. You have precise cursors turned on :)

oh and make sure your brush size is set to about 20 or so....just to be sure your brush size isnt bigger than the screen ;)
 
Id be willing to bet its the CAPS LOCK that is on!
 
many thanks to you all, there is a good chance it is the cap's lock as when i was doing some file saving names i had it on for that, i will be more aware next time i go into the program's to make sure cap lock's are off, incidentally why would something so simple freeze the program to the point of not being able to shut my PC down :thinking:
