For my eBay photos but no matter what I do it dont come out how I wont it to on the pc but on the camera it looks just  so whats going on.

My setup is

Sigma 24-70mm
Canon 580EX 11
A big 24 x 38 inch card top
Light meter
18% gray card

Now 2 photos that I have taken on the camera the background it bright but as you can see when it hits the pc its dull. So guys can you tell me what i need to do.

With all due respect slim, if they are just for eBay, I wouldnt worry too much.

At least people can see what they are :)

You don't say what software you are using, but if it has a levels adjustment, you can brighten up the background of those shots using it.

To make the background white as you take the shots, you need to set your camera to use a custom white balance, normally that will involve taking a photo of the white card on it's own, your camera manual will tell you how to set a custom wb.

Just a quick fix, quick mask in photshop then alter the lightness in Hue/saturation takes about 10 seconds. Hope this helps:

i hope you don't mind, but this took me about 20 seconds in photoshop.

I basically used the lassoo tool, then went to Select/inverse so the background was selected then boosted brightness so it was pure white.

With images like these where you don't have to worry about blowing the highlights, I find the best way is to open your image & create a new "levels" adjustment layer, click the highlight eyedropper (just under "options" (the third one in) & then click on your background - this shall bring the area that you clicked up to white & set it as your white point. Very quick & easy fix with no messing around

Distance will be your friend. Get the products away from the background, then flash at the background whilst metering for the foreground (the item). The background will blow WAY out (giving you a totally white backdrop). It'll take a little fettling the first time, but if you're shooting with a tripod it'll be easy enough to find the exposure you need.

Cheers,
James
