Ok guys I'm going to treat myself to a TETENAL C-41 Colortec Kit to have a play at colour deving at home.

It's all going to be a bit basic .......will be taking on board some of the ideas that i've read on here about using aquarium heaters, washing up bowls etc.

Anyhow my dilema is what film do I play with.

I actually have a number of Agfa Vista plus 200 ( quid films) knocking about but from what i understand by some the colours aren't so good ( although I have seen results contrary to that, again on here).

Do you suggest i mess with those and see if i get a feel to go further with colour before paying out for "better film" or do i plunge and buy some other brand of colour film...if so, then which?

Tbh Asha, I've got one of those kits and plan to use agfa film to start out with... I dont see the point in spending for a decentish film just to wreck it by my inexperience with c41 processing.

really wouldnt worry about film type on home dev of colour neg, specially on your first go

As I don't shoot enough colour to justify buying Portra, I would recommend Superia. I LOVE the 400.

edit - I do have a roll of Superia 400 (24exp) that I got free in Boots last year as it was past expiration. The expiration date was November 2012. It's not been kept in the fridge or anything but the room I keep it in is very cold! I'd happily send it to you as I probably won't get round to shooting it any time soon and I have a TON of Poundland Agfa for if I do get the itch for some colour!

Yes I fully expect to have a hiccup or two so like you say it does seem a little foolish to start out with decent film.

Tbh at the time of posting the thread, I was searching through film ( as I'm in the process of sorting out a film/chems order) and for some reason felt that I "should" use good colour film so as not to see myself wasting the C41 chems......In hindesight it seems I was looking at trying to run before I've started to walk!

Well thank you very much ....I'll pm you my address....Going on other advice, I think I'll play with the vista film and then try this superia that you have kindly offered....It will offer a chance to see different results between the films and probably enough of a tester to see if i wish to continue my journey into colour film.

Agfa Vista is PERFECT for a first C-41 development!

Certainly looks like the vote is certainly going in favour of Vista for a first play around at colour.

I think that colour-wise the Agfa Vista is bloody good, give it a go, no point in spending on expensive film for an experiment.
