Hi everyone I'm new here and i'm hoping for help in buying a digital camera. I have decided on a canon but there are sooo many and i really dont know enough about cameras to be amle to choose one. I had decided to spend about £150 but if anyone can convince me i'd get much better photos by spending more (taking into account i am an amateur) then i will but i'm worried the camera may be too complicated. I love taking portrait pics of my grandkids and i want some really good ones of my cats and kittens who all have the most beautiful blue eyes. As well as being simple to use i also want one with a 3in screen and prefer ordinary batteries to the rechargable. Thanks Angie

Hi Angie,

Because you mention easy to use I presume you are after a compact camera? I.e. the ones that fit nice and snug into a pocket? First ranges that come to mind are the Canon Powershot and Canon IXUS models. But I don't have any personal experience with these so can only say I've heard good things about them for the price range.

One of my favourite sites for looking up cameras is www.cameras.co.uk. If you go into the camera selector part (here) it gives you a really nice page to enter your requirements and then look through what it advises.

I'd try this too and in the mean time some other members here might spot your post and have a think about it too.

Hope this helps!

Hi thanks for the link but for some reason this site wont load - i even tried googling it but no luck.I will try again later but in the meantime has anyone else got any suggestions? I like the sound of the A2000 but cant help wondering if i should go for one a bit more expensive (i found the A2000 for £110 at buyacamera.co.uk). Thanks Angie

Hi karmagarda, thanks so much for your link (which is now working fine) as it helped me find the perfect camera for me - a canon powershot A2100. Its got everything i wanted ie. a 3 inch screen,is easy to use and uses AA batteries and is in the higher price bracket. All the reviews i read say it is an excellant camera. I then checked out prices before buying and to my joy found it for half price at argos - £140. Cant wait to get snapping Angie x

I'd watch out for one that takes AA batteries, you'll spend a fortune! Much better to get a mains-chargeable battery and then you can get a spare if you need it.

Canon IXUS cameras are greta at what they do and will be a useful stand-by if you do ever decide to trade-up and spend more in the future - beware though - this way madness lies!!!
