I'm trying to get a white background showing through on the guys hair, with out much success, i normally don't have a problem with this, but i just can't get it in on this pic, i've tried the refine edge tool in PS without much success, i'm posting a low res version here, so if anyone wants to have a go please feel free and let me know how you did it, many thanks in advance :)

Thanks Ed, it looks pretty good, but i'm trying to keep as close as possible to the original, probably impossible i know, anyone else got any suggestions please :)

To be honest I think Ed done as best of a job that can really be done. I would say its gonna be impossible to get it much better if any better than Ed as done. To rub out the black from all the hair is gonna be impossible. Cant you reshoot it against a white bg ?

Here is one way you will get it to be as close as possible. It's hard to do with the jpg posted because of pixelation. Open your photo in PS, duplicate the layer. Use the clone tool to get rid of the black background. Go to your layers palette and move the opacity to 0. Click on the history brush (make it the size of the strands of hair), up top set it to normal and 100% opacity (i don't mean change it in the layers box) and zoom way in on the hair and paint each hair back in. Once it's all back in move your opacity slider to 100% in the layers box...
