Please help! Cropping issue at time of printing

Are your photos saved in the same ratio as the print size - ie if say you want a 15" x 10" print then your photo should have a ratio of 3 : 2,if anything other than thatie 4 : 3 etc then to fit a 3 : 2 frame some cropping in going to occur
I use DS a lot and their quality and value is great

Also with the above, what camera do you have because that determines what your ratio is (some cameras can do multiple ratio but is very few)

If your camera is a 3:2 ratio your native size will be 6x4,9x6 12x8 etc but say you want a print at 7x5 or 10x8 etc you will need to crop the photo so it matches the ratio of the photo you are ordering.

Ask as many questions as you want, once you get the hang of it you will be printing and ordering a lot.

Your camera is a 3:2 ratio that is why you need to crop to a 7x5 photo.

Now you can do this with DSCL online photo ordering system but it might be quicker to crop to 7x5 before you upload them

You will need a photo editor of which there are many. Do you have an editor at the moment?

If you will want to print at 7 x 5 on a regular basis, remember when taking the photo that you are going to lose some from the side so adjust your composition accordingly. That way, you won't lose an important part of the picture when you print it. Alternatively, start printing at 9 x 6 or 6 x4

I don't have elements but I do have it's big brother and I am sure it can do the crop system I use in Photoshop CS5.

I will try and find/write a tutorial for you.

If you are using elements, select the crop tool from the icons on the left hand side. There is then a drop down menu at the top left corner from which you can select a cropping aspect ratio

Carrie, if you are going down the route of using 7x5.....the crop ratio for those is......7:5.....

But my advice would be to resize the image (when cropped of course) then upload to DSCL and choose the 7x5 option. Much better files and if when loaded to DSCL, you click the edit button, if you see a 'green excellent' then your prints will be fine. If they are 'good' or 'poor' I would readjust and reload back to DSCL.
