After leaving things until the last minute I had to resort to using asda for a 20x16print. I took four 10x8's and made a collage in picassa and resized to 20x16 before exporting. It is 5120 x 4096 & 3.63 mb. Today my wife picked it up while I was at work and it has been chopped at the top and right hand side as if it wasn't the right ratio. Any ideas on the problem?

My print guy has me resize my images to 300dpi so 20x16" would be 6000x4800.

Your pixel sizes appear to be the correct ratio but if it wasn't upsized to 6000x4800 and was straight printed at 300dpi it wouldn't cover the whole canvas :( That would be my guess at what has happened.

I bet Asda's print lab employ non skilled people who are taught to just print straight from the file :( Am sorry it doesn't help but at least you have an idea what might have happened.

Thanks for the replies. I usually use dscl but I needed it straight away and the quality wasn't so important and didn't want to pay £4 delivery for one print. When my wife took the memo stick to asda one of the people there put it in the machine and did the order for her and somehow hit zoom which cropped a bit off. I have been back tonight and they sorted it out.

Wow! 6000 pixels for a 20x16!! You only really need about half that resolution to get a perfectly good image (and can be done with much less).

No need to print large images at 300ppi (not dpi wuhich is the setting of the printer - image resolution is measured in pixels - so pixels per inch is the correct term).

Best top ask them why as it is an answer we can only guess at without knowing what they do to images.
