I'm in a facebook group called "Cole's Classroom", mainly a "States" thing but there are a few English users.

I just seem to have run into a fairly obnoxious one.

Facebook groups suffer more with keyboard warriors than virtually anywhere else on the Internet, save perhaps YouTube comments, I co-admin a large group for critique somewhere close to 12,000 members now and see this type of thing on a regular basis...its particular bad however on kit questions groups..my best suggestion is to just try and ignore the morons and get on with being helpful...ideally report the post for the attention of group admins to swat the idiots

Unfortunately a trait too many people have, and something displayed on here rather often as well. Could be so easily avoided by not being afraid to just admit that there is more than one possible cause for something.

Most peculiar behaviour that @Russ77 crime was being a know it all. The classic let's blemish the other persons character move. I sometimes wonder whether those who do that actually realise what they are doing.

That post went through several iterations before it was acceptable for public viewing, I think that sentence was going to be something else but I changed it and screwed up

This kind of lunacy was the sort of thing I knew was going to happen to facebook once they'd lifted the rules on who could join.

Unfortunately it happens in "real life", and not just social networking groups.
Years ago, I went for a few drinks with a couple of mates (one is not a mate any more), and the talk got around to films. One of the guys mentioned films which Harrison Ford had been in, and the Indiana Jones series was discussed. I then mentioned "Patriot Games" where Ford plays the CIA guy Jack Ryan, and added Sean Bean as the other (amongst many) major actors. This sparked a quick outburst from the ex mate, who said that Sean Bean was definitely not in the film, which resulted in me describing the opening scenes, and the fact that Bean played the main IRA role in the film. This bloke wasn't having it at all, and was getting quite loud and angry - probably made worse by the fact that I was laughing the whole thing off. The other mate didn't want to get involved, and after "Mr Irate" had calmed down the evening kind of died a death. One of the final comments of the evening was this ex mate telling me that I should be less argumentative.

The trend is always to go after personal character attacks. Quite pathetic but yet seems to happen a lot. Although I'm lucky enough not to have experienced it anywhere other than online.

It was a pretty pointless discussion about my ex wife stating she can drink vodka & coke and not feel too drunk after several of them but 2 glasses of wine and she's "tiddly".

I said that's because the % of alcohol in a vodka & coke drops to around 7%-8% (give or take) whereas most wines are 12%+.

BiL pipes up that he's been a licensee and a vodka & coke, when mixed remains at 37.5% regardless of how much mixer you put with it. Mother-in-law pipped up "Well, he was a licensee, I think he know what he's talking about", to which I replied along the lines of "Whether he was a licensee or not, I studied the sciences at A-level, unless they've changed a lot of stuff since then what he's saying is completely impossible".

Apparently me then getting on to google to back up what I was saying was me just "having to be right"...... errrmmm but I was

Sadly I do retain a lot of useless information and will normally try to reason problems/questions with logic and do a little research if needs be.

I'm far from a know it all and if I get something wrong I put my hands up and say fair enough but am I really expected to pretend I don't know the answer to something when someone is blatantly talking rubbish ?

In the aftermath of the Paris terrorist attacks, there was the inevitable backlash on face-ache with the shall we politely say "uneducated" spouting untruths about Muslims and the "kick all muslims out of the UK" line.

One female friend in particular was most adamant about this and kept posting such nonsense I had other friends asking me if she was for real or just trying to wind people up. Sadly she was for real and got deleted/blocked for her troubles.

This was the same woman who shared a post saying that Redbull contained bull semen........ even with "proper" evidence showing that taurine used to be extracted from bull bile, she still wouldn't have it.

It used to be a case of "bloke down the pub said" syndrome but now it seems a lot of people believe EVERYTHING they read on the internet :/

Don't get me started on the BiL Russ!!!!!
Many years ago, the "outlaws" came over for dinner, just after I had decorated the front room. The BiL commented on how metal light switches would have looked better than the nice tactile, soft touch ones which I had used. So, I informed him that as we have a non earthed lighting circuit (house built in 1963, has not been fully rewired), I was advised that I sgould use plastic, which are nicer, easy to clean and go better with the neutral colour scheme.
He then launches into a loud tirade about how NOBODY (sarcasm oozing from his voice) has a non earthed lighting circuit because it is illegal, and as an engineer (not an electrician) he knows about these things. By this time his wife is having a chuckle as well, so I go into the kitchen and bring back an electricians screwdriver and ask him to check just to make sure that the earth wire has not magically appeared since I fitted the switch.
At this point he adopts the other attitude, of accusing me of not being able to take a joke, because he was only winding me up.
Fortunately we do not see him any more

I don't know if I was correctly advised by the electrical supplier, but I would have gone for the soft touch switches anyway.

I would use Vodka and Coke - straight Vodka in the numpty's glass and Vodka and Coke in mine - at a 1 part Vodka to 5 parts Coke ratio. In a pint glass. See who's still standing 30 minutes later!

The weird/worrying thing now is that I can drink my way through a bottle of red and barely feel tipsy...... New Year's Eve I drank (at a guess) just over a 1/3 of a litre of vodka over and seriously failed the fresh air challenge on the 5 minute walk home.

I know that's about the same in terms of units, even the wife commented on what a lightweight I'd been although I was still sitting their editing the photos I'd taken at about 1am

It must have been something about my ex's family (well actually I could write a book on them) but FiL had an R reg 1.6 (I think) escort which he insisted had not one but TWO "economical" speed, 56MPH and 75MPH. This was solely because the manual showed the comparative consumption figures at those speed but he adamant that it was just as economical at 75mph as it was at 56mph......... Again, the laws of physics were completely thrown out of the window

My wife asked if I was going to do dry January..... I reminded her that I'm on-call one week in three so I effectively spend 4 months of the year sober so I need to make the most of the other 8 months

Have to admit that I've never really "got" the idea of units. Seems to only be really applicable to drinking and driving and if I'm driving, not a drop, thanks! I know there's a recommended number of units maximum per week but most drinkers I know will run out of their allowance on Friday evening. Rarely drink in the UK now - too bloody expensive! Do most of it on holiday when a day off driving after a good night out isn't a problem (and there's zero chance of a panic call from MiL needing a lift somewhere...) Sometimes wonder where the hell (my late teens and twenties went but that's a whole different story!) I used to put the multitude of pints when I did used to drink heavily! I'm full after 2 pints these days.
