just thought I would share this, as it has a happy ending. I brought a used Nikon 80-200 (Two touch) off EBay last week.
The M/A ring was loose as was the main lens hood and the focus ring.

I contacted the seller who who wouldn't take it back ( it was a non return). He said he was surprised at the condition. BUT if I get a quote he would pay for the repairs.
I dropped it of at fixation, they did a great job, and the seller was good as his word and covered the bill. Just thought I would share a positive experience :)

It must be common on this lens as I have bought 2 examples from ebay and both have cracked focus switch rings and loose lens body.

Thankfully the ring wasn't cracked, although I'm aware that this will happen at some point. The loose lens body was a surprise though :)

As an eBay seller I often find that most people are pretty good if something ever goes wrong, I've had more than a thousand sales and only ever a couple of 'bad' customers that seemed to think I was determined to ruin their lives by accidentally sending the wrong product. Sometimes I think eBay customers and sellers get an undeserved reputation. Then again, the amount of items that get 'lost' on the way to Italy...
