Here's a few questions for the owners of the PS3 :)

Is it as good as people say?

Why is it better than a standard blu ray player?

Will it upscale old level DVD?

Using the play Tv device, recording to the PS3's HDD should be possible, has anyone done this .....thoughts and experiences pleeeeease

I'm considering moving my pioneer dvr to another room and partaking of some HD goodness on my pioneer plasma, but the facility to record tv in the short term is a must as funds are a little too tight to stretch to sky HD too.

I don't play many games tbh, but call of duty 4 had me smiling for a wee while :D

Is the PS3 available on the net for a better price than the highstreet?

DF, the COD4 is amazing isn't it? :)

I've never recorded off of mine before thoug so can't help there.

Only had a quick go of it in HMV

Not sure if I can justify 335 quid for another machine!

I have the original playstaion somewhere.....only ever had about 5 games for it.....but the winter nights are almost upon us, so a touch of gaming might be nice between HD films

Why not get a backdrop and some studio lights and get some portraits done? or produce photography? just a thought.

Get a Blue Ray player if you are not sure wheather you'll play games or not, my PS3 is quite noisey aswell.

Tony

ps3 is only noisy if you dont let it breathe, mine isnt too bad, a touch noisier than my HD amp..

Play tv allows the playing of games while you record tv, dont know if it records in HD though. Shop around for PS3.

I can't see how it can record in HD as it's not a HD reciever.

And you haven't answered my other questions and you're the worlds biggest PS3 fanboy

Is it as good as people say? - yes.:D

Why is it better than a standard blu ray player? - no, see grendals thread on BD50 or S550, equal to sammy 1500

Will it upscale old level DVD? - yes, to 1080p if your tv will do it

the ps3 will probably upscale the TV though

Well go buy it and review it!

I don't know too much about all the latest blu-ray players.
But something to remember, is the ps3 gets firmware updates, so it's capable of updating itself to have the same features that next years top blu-ray player will have.

PlayTV....not sure it's worth all the money. Obviously it records only in standard definition. Pauses live tv, records from an EPG, you can then transfer your recordings to PC, PSP etc.
Not sure I would pay £70 for a freeview box that records tv.
Also something to note, as it's only capable of recording Standard Def, it's not that future proof.

Call Of Duty is very addictive, and a top game. In fact, if there's enough people who play this game, we could have a TalkPhotography clan, and play a few games against other members of this forum!

You can get 40gb ps3's for about £220 if you shop around online.

Or, if you want backwards compatibility with your ps2/ps1 games, then get a preowned 60gb for £250 from gamestation (these models are no longer made and usually only available on ebay)

I nearly sold my 60gb PS3 earlier this year because it never got used. Now it's my main media centre and DVD player :D

Plus the price of Blu-Rays have been dropping recently so I've been buying more of them. I reckon it's really worth it. The games are getting better too.

I love Call of Duty 4 but only last about 10 seconds (at best) if I venture online to play. Keep getting blown up by hand grenades thrown from miles away!!
The new Call of Duty game sounds good though...with four player co-operative it should be quite a laugh.

Trouble is, I play it on the 360
:lol::lol::lol:

the ps3 is B/C for ps1 games, and there are rumours that a firmware update will make it compatible with ps2 games.

I thought you could already play PS2 games on the PS3?

Tony

the early models had a chip in it, the newer ones dont, im not sure if software compatibility is out yet or not...

Interesting

TP call of duty eh...........I could be persuaded for some long range sniping :D

So, what do you think to it? If there's enough people on here who play it, would anyone be up for a few games just for TP'ers?
