There's Air France doing a sale until Monday and me & mrs were planning a trip to San Francisco/LA/Grand Canyon/Las Vegas.

Never been to the west coast of the U.S of A before and not sure how many days will be needed to cover these places including shooting time :) and how to get around from one place to another, whether take domestic flights, rent a car or hop on a train?

Any pointers are much appreciated guys............

No advice, but I hope you have a great time, it is something I have always wanted to do :) If it was me I would be there as long as I could afford and would hire a nice big car and just cruise around exploring and keeping an eye out for some shots.

I couple of years ago I did a trip from San Francisco to San Diego via LA and Vegas. We hired a car and took 3 weeks.

My advice would be get a car and DO NOT book any hotels after your first few days in San Francisco. I know of too many people who missed seeing things because they had to get to their next over night stop, and we like to stop in the less/non touristy town.

I was not into photography at the time so can't give you shooting times, but there is loads in San Francisco. What every you do you MUST take the audio tour of Alcatraz

Load of scenery on the Pacific Coast Highway (route 101) down to LA. Hurst Castle is worth a visit IMHO.

Not too sure about LA, we really only went there because I wanted to go to a concert and we had free accommodation just outside Burbank. We did do Hollywood/ Bowl and Venice beach and the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library and Museum out in the valley.

We took the long way round to Vegas via Mojave Desert and Edwards Air Force Base. Vegas is a togs dream lots to see and shoot, don't miss Fremont Street at night. We missed the Grand Canyon because I wanted to go to the Hover Dam instead.

We then went on to San Diego, which is another story altogether

dont call it 'frisco' to any locals though, they hate it!

alcatraz is a must see, but its so busy that you need to book your ticket in advance from the booths by the peir

I personally wouldn't even bother with LA...
