I have set my mind on shooting a sunset and perhaps even startrails in Stonehenge.

I have seen some work posted here, so it must be possible.

How could I arrange to shoot? Where could I park? Can I use the photos commercially (i.e. print sales through my website)?

Many thanks in advance.

Try getting hold of English Heritage (I think that's who now control the 'henge) and ask them for any relevany permissions etc.

You can probably do the sunset outside the fenced area, and there are spaces along the road you can park and walk if I remember correctly...

You need to be closer for the star trails I would imagine..

There's a byway that crosses from the A303 to the A344 which provides a good view of the Henge, although there is a fence there. Just enter Stonehenge into Google maps and you'll see it to the left of the Henge.

Surely, if you're taking the photos froma public place then you are free to use them any way you see it?

Make sure you put up some pics. Would love to see the results!

I've been there tonight. It got very cloudy so I just went round the fence and came back. The fence is very annoyingly tall where the good views are. Then it gets quite low elsewhere. To put a final nail in the coffin they have security guards dressed up in bright jackets, and they spoil the whole view.
Perhaps it is time write a letter to EH.

Several years ago I went on a 'Special Access' trip around Stonehenge. These trips have very limited numbers and you visit when the site is otherwise closed. We got to walk amongst the stones and take some great pictures (I wish I'd had more than on old P&S). This is the company I used.

That page also has a link to this one at EH's website. Perhaps somebody might like to organise a TP trip? It might be expensive but it'd be a real cool day out. If anybody does decide to try it, I'd want to be on the list.

Looks like they are really trying not let anyone come at an interesting time of day (i.e. sunset). I am not sure if there is any more to it, as people seem to have even night time photos from there which would go against whatever that pdf says. The best way is surely to get employed as one of their guards

A TP trip would sound like an interesting plan. However, a good time and good weather would be necessary to make it worthwhile. That is a bit like lottery at the moment.

I think I will leave those pebbles for now. There are far more exciting things in the South West and Wales.

Try outside the fence and zoom in
