How can anyone come down on the Israeli side in all of this? It's not a war - it's barely a conflict. It's a slaughter of innocent people trying to live out their lives in peace. Reading the news and seeing some of the images - it really is heartbreaking...

As strongly as I agree with you. I'm guessing a thread like this can only end with as much violence as the conflict itself

Indeed, but we have the 'Out of Focus' section for a reason!

I'm just baffled as to how anyone could conclude that Israel are acting appropriately in this situation. There hasn't been a single fatality in Israel as a result of the conflict, yet innocent people die every day in Palestine.

Oh I agree 150%. I'm just betting the thread ends badly

You cannot just take this single incident but need to look over the last few years, especially since Hamas came to power.
There's always a certain political game being played, firing rockets from within civilian areas. If the isralies don't retaliate, they fire more, if they do retaliate they lose on propaganda as civilians are killed. Plus how do you tell the rocket firing people from civilians?

Then you get:
An Egyptian-brokered ceasefire that Western and Israeli leaders hoped would bring an end to the current Gaza war had already collapsed by Tuesday afternoon, just hours after Israel's cabinet voted in favor of the truce.

Around mid-morning, Israeli ministers voted 6-2 to accept the Egyptian proposal, and the Israeli army was ordered to halt all operations against terrorist forces in Gaza.

But, the Gaza rockets just kept coming. Volley after volley targeted central and northern Israel. And though Israel's Iron Dome prevented any serious damage or injuries, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu warned that Israel wouldn't accept the lopsided situation for very long. By mid-afternoon, Israel was against striking targets in Gaza, and the war appeared to be back in full swing.

they are all "nutters" - Armageddon is near

Video worth a watch. Jewish protesters demonstrating against the Israeli action in Palestine. One protester denounces Israeli attacks on Palestine as representation of Zionism, not Judaism in Israel. Not all Jews condone the Israeli action against Palestine.

How long do you expect an armed nation to put up with repeated rocket attacks (effective or not) without retaliating?

I hate all of the violence but surely if you stop throwing stones at your neighbour you are more likely to stop them feeling inclined to throw stones at you?

There are rights and wrongs on BOTH sides of this political divide, always have been and it isn't looking like they will end any time soon. However, as far as this forum goes, this is exactly the kind of political debate that will end in tears and tantrums sooner rather than later. For every 'victim' story/you tube clip you can find from one side, you can find just as many from the other. So, for that reason and on this occasion, this thread is closing before it gets going. There are many places on the internet you have these discussions but experience tells us that a photography forum probably isn't the best.
