hey guys, i have a holiday booked in perranporth cornwall in a fortnight.

was wondering if anyone knew of any nice places to photograph. i have been going to cornwall all my life on little holidays but you never get to see all of it so any input will be greatly recieved.

i would like to photograph some of the mine ruins and engine houses dotted around the skyline.

thanks
Maty

Head west to Cape Cornwall, St Just, Land's End area, great scenery plus loads of derelict (some not too bad) mines.

Porthcurno is also worth a look as is The Lizard.

Enjoy Cornwall, we could have met up but I'm on 2 weeks holiday now, and go back to work as you get here :)

thanks berkutschi, thats a shame you go back to work the same time i come down.

anyone else know of anything?

Mevaguissy. Lovely fishing village.

no problem, another place you could try is Tintagel:)

All of whats been said are great places to go. You can walk for miles and miles along the coast by St Just where the old tin mines are, was there yesterday myself. Also St Michael's Mounts is a nice place to visit, only 10 miles from St Just. I'd also recommend Bedruthan Steps and anywhere along with Widemounth Bay road, plenty of stops at different beaches/cliffs.

Some good recommendations – a couple of my favorites below…

Just around the corner towards St Agnes you will find this – Wheal Coates – walk down over the cliff to get this view… Taken in November!

Going past St Ives you will get to Levant

Bit further on you get to Botallack - these have some nice mine workings on top of the cliff - Down near sea level you have the Crown Mines - another must..

Lands End is a must. Walk across from the car park towards Greb Farm, keep on going and you are rewarded with this view – Enys Dodman in the foreground (the rock with the hole) and the Armed Knight behind, in the distance you can see the Longships Lighthouse. Note that is the direction where the sun sets!

Lots of Neolithic/Megalithic remains - Quoit’s or dolmen (burial chambers), try Mulfra, Chun or Zennor, the one I like the best is Lanyon Quoit…

Marazion is worth a visit, take in St Michael’s Mount. Better in the evening as the sun rises behind the island and throws into shadow. Facing the island the sunsets behind you…

The whole place is amazing - happy to add some more if you are interested...

these are awesome, i will be trying all of these when i get down there :D

North Cornwall where i used to live has some great places, Boscastle up on the cliffs and Highcliff towards Tresparrett, Port Issac (where doc martin is filmed), Trebarwith Strand a little cove, or head inland for a sunset at Rough Tor nr Camelford on Bodmin Moor where you can see both sides of the Cornish coast on a good day.

excellent guys. thanks so much for the help. looks as if i will be a very busy boy
i will be posting up pitures as i take them

Bedruthan steps look it up it is a must, go at low tide and get on the beach the giant rock forms are awsome.

right guys, i am down in sunny cornwall now. i have already photographed botallack engine houses and wheal coates. also a nice sunset over chapel rock perranporth

are there any more people can think of apart from what people have said above

thanks

Maty

cornish mine shots are played out...
i lived in penzance for 16 years and was in a camera club
mine shots went down like a lead balloon

i used to rove the moors and shoot details of growth etc
harbours are nice and pretty and very chocolate box

what does cornwall have that no other place has?
the scillies
treat yourself and you wont regret it...expensive to get there and stay..but a land to itself

othewise i would be stuck myself to know what to take when i go back to stay there again

many beautiful gardens and out of the way villages...some with old buildings

i see you are near bottallack...the st just lighthouse is a cool icon and cape cornwall
if you like natural gardens then trewidden near newlyn is ok
you are near the ding dong mine area with iron age forts and carn galver
you can park near and walk the mile or so to get there
ask a local for the ding dong mine road..just out of madron heading to the north coast..lanyon quoit in the sunset afterwards

enjoy...even without photography there is a magic in the air

Check out Watergate bay if the surfs up, to get some surfing pics. Whilst your in the area Bedruthen Steps can be dramatic if the weathers right. Park in the NT car park for the best view.

I find google earth quite useful when searching for places to take photographs, just zoom in all around the area local to where you are staying and check out the images.

this is a scilly shot...no jokes please
you will find the coasts and its secret coves everwhere around the penwithian coast

st ives for stock

Sorry missed this – I am still finding my way around here… Living close to Dartmoor I find granite never really photographs that well in colour (with the odd exception). I tend to work with the texture, I also separate my images into layers and will apply different sharpening and colour corrections to promote the different sections – the easiest way is to show you with an image – apols, I have posted this before, so same car, different colour conversions - so top left is Red filter (it had to be), top right is blue (so I lost the sky), bottom left is green (great sky) and bottom right is yellow (my favourite) – so you can pick the best bits from each!!!
