sorry if this is a very dim question but how many pixels per inch or centimetre
do there need to be to be 6megapixels or 1megapixel

when resizing i dont know how to retain high quality for a large print
i'm using PSP8

ok - simplified - if you need to print 10" wide at 300dpi - then you need 3000px wide.
If you need to print 9" wide at 200dpi - then you need a file 1800px wide.

Megapixels are for marketing people to sell more cameras!!!

An image straight out of a camera will have a lot of pixels, but you may need more, or less.

Where ever you are getting your file printed will specify the dpi/ppi of the file they need (or you set it on your own printer), this is Pixels Per Inch (or Dots Per Inch, but that is mainly for printers) and is called the resolution, obviously the lower the resolution, the poorer the quality of the print hen you look close up.

To resize, set the ppi as needed, then enter the dimensions of the print you want, taking care to make sure that the aspect ratio is correct, say if you size up a 7x5, make sure that is you resize the long edge to 7", the shorter edge is 5".
