I'm looking into the varied options for off-camera flash triggering and have found lots of very useful information on some of the various options, but have not seen any comments here about pixel kings. I have seen some positive reviews in other places and some good looking youtube videos but was looking to see if anyone has firsthand knowledge or any interesting comments from here.

The things that appeal about the pixel kings (as per the specs) are:
ttl compatability (although they don't support group ratios with ttl)
full manual control of up to 3 groups using the camera flash menu (with compatible cameras including my 40D)

They also claim to support 2nd curtain sync and sync speeds up to 1/8000 sec

For info I have a Canon 40D and a 580EXII flash.

Does anyone have any comments or real-life experience of these?

Cheers

Matt

Hi Matt, there is loads of information on the site 'Speedliting Forum' that may help yopu with more details. Also plenty of video's if you 'google' for them.

Thanks Malcom. I'll take a look

I have a pair of these Matt and think they are great
had no problems at all to date, the only thing I have noticed that when I set camera flash exposure compensation its not showing up on the back of the flash but doe give out the extra power, all other setting do show up on the back flash panel. another student at college bought some too, after seeing mine, The only thing I wished I had done was by two receivers and a transmitter
instead of one of each, but I guess I can alway just buy another receiver.
all setting work from the the camera menu, which is useful if you have the flash high up in a softbox. there is a pdf review here

I have 2 receivers and one transmitter. Note that they are useless for cameras which can't control smart flashes. Unlike "dumber" triggers it seems to be impossible to set the flashes up through their own interface and only fire them with the trigger. That means that I can use the kings with a 5dm2, but have to fall back to older cactus V4s for the 1v and 500c/m.

Thanks all. Appreciate the input. I think I'm going to give them a go

I've had these for a few weeks - I've upgraded from the rf602s.
I keep my rf602s and use them as a radio shutter release - handy for flash metering (in manual flash mode)

As wireless triggers they haven't failed to flash.

I have a 580ex 11 and 580ex 1

You really need 11 series flashguns to get the full benefit of camera control - like changing modes (manual to ettl), zoom, and power levels in manual mode.

1 series flashguns work allowing HSS, 2nd curtain and FEC - FEL seems to work too.

Re. the lack of ratios V the PWs
This has to be seen in context, to get the ratios with PWs you need a 580 flashgun or an ste2 on the TX unit.

AFAIK pixel are bringing out something similar to the PW zone contoller.

Thanks all. Appreciate the input. I think I'm going to give them a go
For a 40D and 580 ex 11 these are absolutley ideal, I don't think you will have a minute's regret. :)

LOL I must admit I've just been geeking about with these pixel kings, I would rather post a nice pic to show how useful they are. Maybe today I will get off my backside and try these out down the skatepark or something.:)

Thanks for your comments Mitch. I've been away for a week which is why I hadn't seen your reply sooner.

If you have some examples of what you've taken using yours I'd be really interested to see them.

Rumours of a canon 590 flash with radio ttl coming soon.

I'd wait a short while.

I owned kings for a short time, found them excellent, but sent them back.
