Hey there,

If anyone is looking for some waterfall shots this summer, I can thoroughly recommend Pistyll Rhaeadr (Pistol Ray-Ar-Der) near Oswestry in Wales.

http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?f=q&s...5009,-3.378489&spn=0.010651,0.033023&t=h&z=16

there is a B&B at the very base of the falls, and a couple of 3 hotels/guest houses in the village about 3 miles/20min drive away.

You can get within ten feet of the base, and in good weather you can with great care make your way up sides of the valley to get shots higher up the fall. You can also take a walk to the top (which I didn't have time to do).

a few shots to get you in the mood!

yep, agree totally! The area is stunning, the B&B and coffee shop is very nice, and the road is plain dangerous:)

I love this place and not only good for pics but a nice place to 'just be'. Horrible little road getting to it though :)

That's one of the better minor roads in North Wales;)

It's certainly a great place for photos - also a good starting point for a very nice walk onto the seldom visited Berwyn mountains. Considering this is the highest waterfall in England & Wales very few people know of it - even many of my work colleagues who have lived in North Wales all of their lives!!

Of the shots I prefer 1 & 3 - now if shot 1 had the sky of shot 3 that would be even better

Well the cafe must have improved since I was there, bit run down and tatty, suppose it was about fifteen years ago

Nice place though and remember my daughter having a paddle in the rocks near the cafe

the view off the top isnt bad (and no i dont know what i did to the sky in PP either, it was a long time ago and I was young and foolish)

beaware tho that its very slippery and there isnt (Or at least wasnt) any safety rope on the steps up

Yeah, hard to tell from the photos but the weather was awful, bright, but raining, photographers nightmare. Blown, flat skies for two days. I'll be heading back before the summer is done! Glad you like the shots!

Autumn time is good too as there's some great colours in the trees surrounding the waterfall

I love the Berwyns, I've managed 8 hours out walking and not seen another sould... fantastic!!

Oh boy you missed the best. Always plan enough time to walk to the top because the views from the top are stunning and you can get right close to the edge

wow, that is close! The days that we were there it was very wet, very slippery, no way would I have got that close!

It's a trick. They are actually about 6 feet back from the edge.

It's where they filmed a hair shampoo advert. Girl washing hair in waterfall.
But it's a stunning place, especially in sunshine and at the top. Lots of large rocks, water and great views.
