Dont get me wrong, I'm interested in the sentencing, but Sky are touting live coverage on Monday like the final of {insert reality/talent show here}.

A tad crass?

I haven't seen... Are they really? Seems very crass to me, not just a tad

Yeah they really are.
I don't know why but even I thought "blimey".

It'll be interesting to see if he leaves court with a spring in his step ;)

Lol that was my exact thought seeing your post..
Forget the latest premier, we'll make more money here..
Again I'm interested but not like that

A story in the headlines when I scan news at lunch would've done for me.

It has to be all about making money doesn't it

Can't say I'm in the least bit interested, it's been hyped up all the way

From what I have read, it appears that he is more guilty than a puppy sitting by a pile of poo........... the defense was shockingly crap, but not as much as the prosecution, who messed up quite a bit. Despite being an Afrikaaner in front of a black judge, I would honestly not be surprised if he walked away without a sentence.

Its an advert for not televising trails.
I really don't see the public interest in what is in realty a domestic homicide, in what is only a very loosely connected Country.
There are far more important things happening in the world.

See, I sort of bought his version of events. I do however think they are sketchy and a few things don't add up, but add in a paranoid man and a history of being broken into when he was younger, I can sort of get it.

He'll get jail time, 7yrs and I reckon that will be hell on earth for sure

There are enough previous cases which resulted in non custodial sentences and I believe he'll walk.
Personally I think he should see jail time.

That comes down to whether you believe he shot to kill in the belief he was scared for his life, or whether you feel

a) he didn't adequately ensure he wasn't shooting at his GF.
b) he intended to kill his GF

If you believe a or b, I understand the need for jail for sure. I think its a mix a) and the top. I believe he shot to kill an intruder, but he didn't adequately ensure he knew what he was shooting at. He needs some jail time alas on balance.

I believe he shot to kill his girlfriend.
I have never believed that he thought he heard an intruder, got out of bed without noticing that she was no longer there, and went off in search of said intruder.
Any sane person would perhaps yes, have taken the gun, and the girlfriend and left the building.
Sadly the trial, and his histrionics throughout were a joke.
But opinion on the crime at this point is by the by. I believe that the crime for which he has been found guilty warrants some time in prison.
But there's other threads full of that.
My OP was about sky's rather tasteless advertising for the live verdict coverage.

ok. They have to sell airtime, people will tune in for sure.

Remember the Nanny trial in the USA, Louise Woodward, it was televised or a lot of was. Its nothing new

That's a valid point... I think what it boils down to is what/who the story is etc

But..... the judge didnt feel the same way, and she sat through all the evidence and heard all the arguments and decided it wasn't his intention to kill his girlfriend. I am happy to think that maybe she knows a little more about the case then any posters on here :) Not that I mind the chatter, its amusing and takes my mind off how crap a photographer I am

Precisely why I gave it as my opinion, not fact. (y)
The transcripts make interesting reading for anyone that wants it in black and white rather than media coverage :-)
But as I said, there are already threads for the trial.
