Awesome group, who in my opinion produced some absolutely wonderful prog rock esque music.

I put this together very quickly just now (using the synth on the bottom of the stacked three you see in my avatar)... crappy I know... but nonetheless...

I saw them on the Animals tour in '77 (or thereabouts) :D Always have been and doubtless always will be far and away my favourite band. :notworthy:

I've even told Mrs F that I want The Great Gig in the Sky played at my funeral!

Was shocked and devastated at last weeks news though... RIP, Rick :'(
 
I was fortunate to have seen Floyd twice in the 80's pure brilliance. I'm going to have to dig out my dvd's and cd's I think.

me too, well kind of - I got to see Roger Waters with Nick Mason at Hyde Park Calling a couple of years back where they did Dark Side of the Moon in its entirety plus a few of the other real big tracks before and after. Was an amazing evening :woot:

shame I missed that last night :(
 
another big floyd fan here,but also never got to see them perform live :'(.got to see roger waters at the NEC last year...brilliant :woot:,also saw the aussie floyd at bristol colston hall..i can thoroughly recommend them :thumbs:.also gutted to hear of rick wrights passing..RIP.

wasn't too stuck on the aussie floyd. saw them again this year and they took out some good numbers and imho ruined the set. check out their website they have an awesome download of meddle, one of the best i have heard another good tribute band are "off the wall". well worth a look.
 
Big fan here too, been to a couple of early concerts ... my first was the The Wall at Earls Court, last night, August the 9th at 8pm row D seat 8...ffs, why oh why, don't they put the year on the ticket stub! :geek: :D ...1980 I think.


Roger waters produced some superb work after the after the split too, this linky is his first album (in a couple pf parts, no video) The pros and cons of hitchhiking Its one continuous story sung through various songs... Its a bit mental heavy, but I love its twists and turns.

hitchhiker was slated by the music press but imho would have been an excellent floyd album. amused to death is rogers best work, it is permanantly on my pod :thumbs:

Much as I love DG's solo work, it never holds up on it's own quite as well as RW's. If you listen to DG's 'On an Island' for example, there are some gorgeous Floydesque sequences but as a whole it seems lightweight and hollow without RW's melancholy and depth. They were such a good team and the whole was much greater than the sum of the parts... pity the buggers couldn't get on together! :(

agree in part, DG's solo work is hit and miss, some stuff i never got my head into. where are the pink floyds of today though? I can be accused of living in the past but wtf, I try but i cant get my head into todays stuff, i cant see the talent about nowadays like when i was a youth. Music was very innovative back then, ELP,Yes,Floyd,Genesis,Led Zep,Deep Purple etc etc.
I wonder if your brain gets hard wired into a particular type of music :thinking:

nowt wrong with that. my dad was into black sabbath when he was alive, "Changes" used to bring him to tears, but he also loved "old blue eyes". my lad is into Nickleback?? the only thing he listens too I like is REM , where did I go wrong :shrug:

Heh... well my Dad was more of a George Formby type of guy so I've got a good excuse! :D

My youngest (eight) is currently being force fed a diet of Floyd and Peter Gabriel! It seems to be working too! :lol:
 
i find gilmours work suffers in production, Roger Waters stuff is ace also, very good.
 
I saw Roger Waters when he was doing the Radio Kaos Tour, not quite as good as The Pink Floyd Momentary Lapse Division Bell tours but still Excellent :)
