Pig flu - are you worried?

I'm not scared :D I made that joke during the bird flu 'crisis' and survived :D

The current joke going round work makes me chuckle.

Me: Dave, I think your mum might have swine flu
Dave: Why's that?
Me: You should have heard her squealing like a little piggy :naughty: heh heh

You do like to live dangerously!

I'll stop now. I'm just a little excited. Am out gigging tonight.

That too

First gig out with me drumming and singing

Probably will do, we'll see

I'm singing a few big band numbers next week!

A population kept in fear is easier for a government to manipulate.

I sharn't be giving the Mrs ( or anyone elses ) a good "porking" for awhile :D

Wife calls hubby, "Ive ran out of petrol and i'm scared of filling up due to swine flu". Hubby says. "You daft t**t it's in Mexico not Texaco"......

I hate to say it but my wife is taking this way too seriously. She makes my two sons wash their hands thoroughly for 20 secs as soon as they get home.:cuckoo: She even asked me not to go to Brands Hatch at the weekend as a case has been reported in Kent. Just as well I wasn't planning to go anyway. She didn't seem too impressed when I told her what I thought, something along the lines of her having mad cows disease.:cuckoo::lol:. Apparently if I went I'd get definitely get swine flu and come back and give it to her sister's kids and they'd all die.:bang:. Quite why I will be infecting just them I don't know, my two sons must be immune.
I told her I have several workmates who live in Kent, but apparently it's ok for me to go to work. Phew!!!!!!!!!!!!

Nope, but for some reason last nights news had a report shot at the graves of the first two people to die from it in Mexico

Is it just me, or do the media seem to want us living in a permanent state of fear these days? We've had Al-Queda, bird flu, swine flu, GM crops and a whole heap of other doses of "impending doom".
The cynic in me is wondering which embarrasing story/policy/escapade the government are going to try and bury while this is holding peoples attention?

I agree with this - whenever sometihng like this happens in the news, the government seem to do something untoward, which would otherwise upset the nation - Oh hang on a minute, they are having a vote on their second homes and expenses this week .............

I am not remotely worried about it.

And here's the little fella that started it all.... Mild Sweary word in the pic Click Here

I don't know how long this link is active for.

This little piggy went to market
this little piggy stayed home
this little piggy ate roast beef
this little piggy had none
this little piggy went wee wee wee
atichoo atichioo atichioo
all the way home :D

Im still trying to get over BIRD flu!!! Give me a break!!

If you think back everytime bird flu is announced it is just before or just after
the start of the game shooting season
Is that an attempt by the anti's to stop game shooting?

This latest outbreak was that ( press, not physically) released by the Muslims of the world to take pork off the menu ?

Just remember even paranoid people have some enemies :D

I know a chap who didn't recover from the effects of misreporting about bird flu.

He rears free-range chickens and most of his customers at the farmers' market dropped him like a very hot hot thing.

Well if he sells to Sainsburys he don't need to worry cos that's what I buy! :D

My bit for the world - DONE!

Urrrrgh, I've just found a dead moth floating about inside the cup of tea I've been drinking. Now I feel yukky, I hope I don't start a new plague called Moth Flu (well, the one that landed in my cup of tea won't be flying about for quite a while).

Ian, you'll be able to reduce the headaches if you keep the lights switched off.

Moth balls are smelly, so ask your doctor for advice.

The quote on the BBC news website made me chuckle where the guy goes

"Wait until bird-flu and swine-flu combine to make flying pig flu" :D

Can't say I'm losing sleep over swine-flu. Seems to be blown out of all proportion and context by the media. Party time for the vaccine manufacturers though. We have 30 million units of vaccine stockpiled apparently. Media-driven hype and fear boosting sales of said vaccines.... co-incidence? Dunno.

Did it say that? Swine flu is a mixture of human, bird, and swine flu. The pig is just a great mixing pot for them all to combine.

It was just some chap on the message board taking the p*ss :)

Ah. ;) Wonder if there's been any more cases reported yet. Whatever I've got is contagious - the girlfriends got it too now! Not going to make much difference to her if it is pig flu though. :p

Clearly she doesn't read these forums else pig flu would be the last of your worries after a comment like that! :D

And for that I'm greatful! :D

Everyone says it's still ok to eat pork though, well, I've been keeping her away from it. Don't want a case of mad pig disease breaking out do we! :p

After lying in a hospital having had a heart attack and thinking you are going to die you take a rather more relaxed and possibly fatalistic view on life,if its going to happen it will but I have no control over it so I will not worry

Haven`t snogged a pig in ages, so should be fine......

It`s this kids fault.

I had to laugh to myself yesterday - the guy who caught pig flu from his mate who came back from Mexico with it, told the news he felt rough for a few days, but feels much better now.

Maybe it is as serious as man flu? :D

Q: We always hear of the pig as a mixing vessel combining human, avian, and pig influenzas. Why didn’t you regularly see reassortants?

R.D.: Good questions. These questions have no answer. There is an explanation somewhere.

The reality is good molecular surveillance in the pigs started in the 1970s. So if there were strains that were not very dominant between the 1930s and the ’70s, we wouldn’t have detected them. This triple reassortant was very successful and took over and dominated the picture—to the point where the classical H1N1 was almost extinct.

I must say that I am puzzled when they report on confirmed cases in the UK, saying that the victims are now recovering at home. I've had a rotten cold over the last week and I reckon my symptoms must have been worse than theirs.

There's definitely a certain amount of media hype involved, classic case of the boy that cried wolf now. Where there is a really serious outbreak no-ones going to take it seriously because they've got used to the sensationalist media.

That said, this pandemic isn't something to laugh at, just because most people will brush it off, doesn't mean and a LOT of people won't.

MY other half is a nurse and they are taking it VERY seriously in the medical profession, all sorts of new procedures and contingency plans being put in very quickly.
