Piers Morgan tries to interview Alex Jones

Yeah I know, I guess its just strange and alien to us, because it is a completely different culture to ours and we don't have a need for guns, and even when handguns were legal in the UK, there was no mass urge to bear arms or anything like that. I mean I love guns, I have a bunch of paintball guns and an air rifle that I use on some land that i have permission to keep the bunny population down, but all my stuff is locked away when not in use.

I am by no means "anti gun/rifle", because I used to shoot 6 and 10 metre air rifle/pistol years ago, but I do not see the need for owning semi autmatic and automatic weapons outside of the military or police.
Having read comments by Americans on various forums today, there are significant numbers who love to brag about how many guns and how much ammunition they own.
One guy reckoned he didn't actually know how many guns he had, another reckoned that you should have a gun for every year you have been alive. Another said that he had around 1000 rounds of 308 ammunition, and there was a guy who said that when he moved house, it took longer to move the ammunition than all the other contents of his house.
If that guy Alex Jones lived in the UK and owned a gun, then following that interview, I reckon the police would have paid him a visit, revoked his licence and confiscated all of his guns.

i can see the point of wanting a weapon for protection of property etc, but not a fully automatic weapon that spits out 70 rounds without a pause.

Alex Jones is nuts. looks different from how she looks on teh One Show though...

I want to laugh but it's who I thought the thread was about before I read it

Also what is this american thing with owning an AR-15 for home defence? Its not like they live in afghanistan. If you really gotta justify owning a fully automatic assault rifle, then you need to move house.

strictly speaking the model of AR15 you can legally buy as a civilian in the states is only semi automatic - though of course its not difficult for a gun nut to modify it to full auto fire.

i can see the point of wanting a weapon for protection of property etc, but not a fully automatic weapon that spits out 70 rounds without a pause.

again we're getting a little carried away with the hyperbole here - I can't think of any automatic rifle that spits out 70 rounds without pause, nearly all have 30 round magazines as a maximum.

There are some areas of america where if i had to live there I'd seriously want some weaponry - and if the home invaders are going to be carrying automatic weapons I can see why the householder might want more than a pistol for home defence (personally i'd probably choose a pump action shotgun with deer slugs , but we digress)

at the end of the day Alex Jones acts like a moron and doesnt help further the NRA cause, and the NRA attracts a lot of morons generaly, but that doesnt mean that all their members conform to that stereotype or that their position is entirely without merit

Beggar.....Never seen The One Show :(

Please tell me there's a video I can watch of that!

It's here
In the UK the gun lobby is relatively weak, so we are lucky that we can make some progress with the situation. My personal view is that in a normal society with a good rule of law there is no justification for a private citizen to keep a gun. Unfortunately, there is very little hope of improving things in the US as the situation is too out of control.
There are lots of very good reasons why private citizens should be (and are) allowed to have guns - sport, pest control etc.
Here in the UK it is maybe a little over regulated, compared to the USA where it seems to me to be seriously under regulated in some states.

IMO there is no need, for the vast majority of people, to have a gun for self defence in our country, although my own son found otherwise, that was an exceptional circumstance. For the Americans who feel that they need a gun for self defence, they should be aware that the best method by far is a shotgun loaded with lightweight shot - but most of the Americans who have a shotgun for self defence go the other extreme and have extremely heavy shot. There is a case of an American who shot a burglar with very heavy shot, it went through his body, through the wall behind him and killed the 17 year old daughter on the other side of the wall...
As the americans would say, go figure...
