Pictures for Local Paper

Hi All,

Just started submitting photos for my local rugby games to my local paper, as requested by email.

When I export from LR I am using 3008X2000, 300dpi, jpeg, max size 2000k with quality at 96%.

When they are published in the paper I think they could look better. As I have to submit via email, taking account of the file sizes, am I using the best settings?

How well calibrated is your monitor and are they doing any adjustments to the image at their end?
 
You have to ask them that. I freelance for a local paper - they request 200dpi full size images at jpeg quality 80 - and they've been printed 1/2 page size and look great.
 
that was quick thanks chaps.

yep monitor calibrated using huey pro. When on the page the pics looks more grainy and more washed out than I would have expected.

When I print to my canon shots look very much as they do on screen.

It's probably down to the paper they use... Remember they're printing CMYK on (usually) recycled, uncoated, thin (70/80gsm) paper, not photo paper - They'll never look as good in a newspaper as they do on proper photographic paper

Realise the paper is poor but my shots compared with others on the page still look grainy and dull:'(

You never said it was compared to the others on the page ;)

Ask the paper how they want the files sending, that'll be the best/easiest way, otherwise we're all just guessing

That is the ONLY answer! Just ask them.

Sounds like a plan, as they have never stipulated how and always said the pics were fine never thought to ask:thumbs:
