Evening All,

Happy new year!

I was lucky enough to go to the West Brom vs Norwich Match yesturday (as a Norwich fan) and in the morning my dad had a round of golf with a couple of his mates that support WBA! I went for a walk with my A200 and 70-300 lens and I've looked at the results and there are a few that I like and are sharp enough for me but then a couple that seem well off even to me! (im not too picky about a photo being pin sharp like some on here but the 2 below have left me a tad disapointed!)

On both photos the player taking the shot is the focus point but neither seem sharp to me!

I used a Sony A200 in auto mode with a Sigma 70-300mm 1:4-5.6 APO MACRO.

Any Ideas?

Thanks

Have you tried a faster shutter speed?:)

Nope, just left it on Auto. Didn't realise that it was that simple?

It might well just be that hopefully.

Auto mode is my first guess, put it in Shutter priority and have another go.

Failing that are you manual or auto focusing? viewfinder or live view??
Your viewfinder may be out of focus twiddle with the knob on the right of the eye rest to sharpen it up!

They just need sharpening - that's all....

When you reduce an image from it's full size of probably a few thousand pixels to a smaller size then you need to sharpen the image - particularly so when you're reducing the image down to web viewing sizes. The downsizing algorithm you use to reduce the size of the image does it's best to cram a quart into a pint pot but some loss of sharpness is inevitable when you've effectively just chucked away a few thousand pixels - in fact you can quite clearly see this happen whenever you reduce an image in size and the effect will be more pronounced the greater the size reduction.

The bottom line is when you downsize an image to web viewing sizes then you must ALWAYS sharpen it if you don't want to publish soft images.

His stance is way too closed:lol:

Could you use something like PS Elements to sharpen the image?
